I have just had a phone call for the secretary of the club I am hoping to join, inviting me to attend a New Members Meeting next week.
Anyone know what I should expect?

why cant it be a condition of membership,if it is a requisite to join then they have every right to ask you to attend.I have just received a email inviting me to an evening with the captain,as a new member.
The email did say it was a condition of membership.
Surely it cant be a condition,i could be working.
I will try and book an evening off,but i don't feel obliged to go,surely its up to me.
oooo - they are fair up themselves demanding you attend...can i say that?I have just recieved a email inviting me to an evening with the captain,as a new member.

so how can it be a
condition of membership.
As Homer rightly points out,if im unable to go,does that mean i wont be able to play,of course not.
If you choose not to go and it's condition of acceptance that you do, then you won't be put forward for membership. If you can't make the evening that they say, then you would normally explain why and offer alternatives that you can do - or join somewhere else if you don't accept their conditions!
The entry system into a club is something that every new member will have gone through and will, I am sure, be useful for them to get to know you and for you to find out more about the club.
