New Look GM

I am shocked by the changes, and it takes a lot to shock me.

Oh dear just realised I haven't actually seen the mag yet.:o

I shouldn't let a technicality like not having seen them get in the way. I too have not seen them yet, but already my mouth is foaming in the knowledge that I most definitely will not care for them at all.

And they have the nerve to call it progress too!

Pah!

Not to mention

Hmmph!

points to note
It's still a magazine so we can only do so much
Jezz has a wardrobe of non-ironic Pringles (jumpers not snacks)
feedback be it good, bad or ugly welcome
'limited edition' subscribers issue just has a different front cover, one that we feel would look better on your coffee table/in your bookshelf - see attached

Had a flick through, and what I've seen looks good so far. Whether it reads that way maybe different. Nothing wrong a bit of change now and again. I get a few of the golf mags going and at times they all seem a bit samey, especially around this time of year with the masters, but looks like GM have changed things up a bit.

Personally I like the interview with the pros and less of the clubs reviews etc. But that's just because I don't change gear that much so no need really to read about it now, when I'd rather read reviews online when the time comes to change.

Had a quick look and the pages seem less cluttered and I like the layout. Not read the articles yet so can't comment on the content although as a former forum page editor (usurped superbly by Tiger) RIP the forum page, although I understood Mike's reasoning

Looks like the reader editorial panel are no longer listed next to Mikes letter. It did seem like a long time has passed since I last received an e-mail for comments or contributions.

Layout looks good, haven't started reading yet but I'm sure it will be good.

Just got the latest GM and it has a brand new look. Now I'm not against progress, but as golfer I generally fear change. I'm all for trying to open up the magazine to new readers, but do we really need to drop our standards so much? There is a reason I read the magazine as I felt it was a gentlemans magazine. No not in that way, I meant read by gentlemen. And the odd women. But not kids. No way kids, young people have no place in golf magazines.

But we now have a vibrant new layout and new features such as testing of manufacturers claims. I mean testing of manufacturers claims, where will it all end? A manufacturers word is his bond, why distrust what they say, where's the etiquette in that? And why no forum page? I imagine the vast majority of the readers who were not actually on the forum were on the edge of their seats every month to find out what BallPinstriker2234 thought about where to stand when someone is teeing off.

I still do not know why the magazine has to appeal to anyone apart from the traditional middle aged to old bloke that is stuck in the 1970s pining for the return of Mrs Thatch. What next, are you going to get Zoella Benjimin and Joe Suggs from Madness to start tweeting blogs on the GM MyTwitSpaceFaceTube page, or whatever the kids use?? If this is what the magazine has to do to make itself relevant in an increasingly pressured marketplace then I am not for it. Absolutely no etiquette and I'm going back to reading Debretts.

What do you expect? It's all been going downhill ever since they started allowing chaps to be paid for playing the game. Whatever next? If we're not careful, those funny chaps who wear long skirts and have bumps in their jumpers will be allowed to play.

Right that's it, got to go and thrash a servant with rolled up copy of Horse & Hound. Toodle pip.

Apologies all, I'm the first to hold my hands up if I missed the joke, and I clearly did.
As a "young" golfer I'm getting a bit tired of being scrutinised against at any golf club I go to, so I was just ready to defend us

Young golfer? Pah! Don't get me started.

Up a chimney, that's where youngsters should be. Not on a golf course.

Received mine yesterday and it's got nothing in it for us senior golfers. No hints on where to stop for pee breaks, no pictorial tuition on kicking the ball from the rough to a better lie, or ways to shorten the distance off the tee to gain a higher handicap and then re find the original swing ........ it's all for these children these days!

By the way, when are we going to see the multi photos of Old Tom Morris' swing on the centre page??

It was much better when it was all in black and white. Next thing you'll be moving away from papyrus :o

I see Todays Golfer are pulling out all the stops in their latest issue bragging about how many pages it is, driver reviews, best courses in each county etc etc. Surely that's not a coincidence. Mag wars.....
