New Irons?

I started playing this game last summer and have recently joined a club - i am currently playing with a mix match of clubs handed down or second hand. Current irons are OSI (no one seems to have heard of them!) Looking for a new set of irons - does anyone have any recomendations? My club handicap is 16...any ideas would be great.

Cooks, everyone has their own favourites, but you should first decide on what sort of money you want to pay. Once you know this you should then try every one of the clubs within your budget, even those you don't fancy. Its all about feel and what works for you. make sure you speak to someone who knows about shafts, and get fitted correctly to make sure you get your money's worth out of the clubs. Should be a long term investment, not a fashion statement

Go to a golf retailer or down your pro shop if they have a good selection and try as many irons as you can in your price range. It might be ideal to get someone who knows their onions to get your correct shaft recommendations too.

You'd probably be looking at game improvement irons of which you can get from all the well known golf brands.

Great thanks - was looking at the MX100 irons - they seem good value...dont want to spend loads as just forked out for club membership and joining fees! I have a mizuno driver which I hit reasonbly well too...

Hard to say more than has been said here but I do recomend my Mizuno MP-53 as something for you to try. I think they are hard to beat if your looking for entry better player iron.

As mentioned before it all depends on how much you want to spend. I would recommend a simulator of some sort or at least someone to recommend the correct shaft as it's the engine of the club!

The MX -100 are a great choice if your starting out, if you go for something like the Mizuno JPX 800 which is their current model, there is not usually an upgrade on the type of shaft that you choose. It all depends on if you want to invest in proper fitted clubs at the moment or buy a set that will keep you going for a couple of years in the MX100

I've now got just over £100 sitting in the pro shop account, if I get it up to £300 I'll book a trip to Gainsborough for the start of next season.

I'm sure there will be S55's by then.

Like the others have said, have a good look at what's in your budget, have a swing with any that catch the eye and get fitted if at all possible. I was both amazed and fascinated by the whole fitting process and it gives great confidence knowing you have the optimum shaft for your swing.

Another Mizuno fan here, they simply don't make a bad iron, personally I would think the MX100's are a bit 'chunky' and maybe the MX200's would be a better bet and shouldn't break the bank!

Well I'm going to go against the grain here and ask the question:

What is it that your Irons are not doing for you?

IMO you've got down to 16 with them so they don't appear to be holding you back. My advice is stick with them for now, most others will agree with me on this "why change something that works"!

If you're handicap is still coming down, why change?
