Off out in a bit to try some new irons, i don't think i've ever been this excited since i was a lad.

Hopefully will bag the mp53's or jpx pro's although i've not ruled out cobra s2 forged :D :D

Mp53s.. nice.
Where are you getting them from?

Bob, i'm going to True fit golf in warrington they have a good selection of sticks and are an approved mizuno stockists with the mizuno custom fitting cart.

There also a god set of lads in the pro shop there.

hehe, im just waisting a bit of time before I go and hit some MP53s...

I have been dreaming of them all night. When I woke up my wife asked, "do you want anything for breakfast" I said "i just want my MP53s" she said "why do you want a motorbike?"

hehe

I just got back from my fitting; I went to American Golf in Watford. Now I know people have said that they can be very low on customer service, but John in Watford was fantastic. He gave me all the time on the world and fully custom fit me, taking time all the way through to tell me what the stats ment.

I used the Mizuno MP53 head and for my DNA test I hit the ball at 81, 82, 83 mph. When we started doing the lie I seemed to start to show off a bit and hit the ball off center a little as I was coming over the top but turned out to be standard lie.

The shafts that were recommended to me were 1st choice NS Pro 950 Stiff and second choice was Dynalite Gold XP S300 Soft Step. I don’t know a lot about these shafts, but I will look them up and see what I can find out.

The whole thing was really good fun and very interesting. The MP53 for me is like sex without a condom, it can be dangerous but it feels much nicer.

Now I just need to find the £450/500 to buy them…. Dear Santa..

@thecraw. The S56 is so beautiful but is it not a little extreme for us? The MP53 have a V milled cavaty in the higher irons.

@Stuart_C. Whats your take on the day?

On the subject of new irons, I gave the I15's I got on a trial basis a bash today. Decided against playing as we're on temps and I couldn't be asked trying to fire into holes cut on frozen fairway and try get any degree of stop or control.

I went to a frozen range instead and oddly enough it was just me, a guy having a lesson and that was it. I found a heated bay and settled in. First impressions (they are black do standard loft and lie) is they looked and felt a tad upright. However as I got the ice out of the veins and loosened up I did start putting some good shots together. I'm not convinced they are as long as my TP's but it was hard to judge with several layers on and cold air and balls. I worked my way up through the bag and when I put a decent swing on them they had a lovely soft feel to them. Even mis-hits weren't overly punished and all in all they were every bit as good as the ones I'd hit at various demos and tests. I'll go back and give them another bash tomorrow and have a think. I really want to give them a go on the course when conditions aren't so extreme and the greens are open so I can get a proper feel for distances.

Hi Alex

I just wondered why you didn't go to Bansted where they do a full fitting using flightscope ( or did they?)
I have a fitting booked for Dec 8th and I understand that it takes an hour. I am assuming that the MP53's are what I will end up with as I have played MP60's and really liked them in the past

I hope that you like what you decide on

Hey Chris,

I woke up, looked out the window and thought "range not course" then I thought "someone elces clubs not mine would be nice" and made a few calls. All I really wanted to do was hit them and was not expecting a fitting. It cost me nothing and was a nice thing to do on a winters afternoon.

Where is Bansted? I googled it and did not come up with anything fitting center wise.

I will have to go back anyhow as Ethan tells me the DNA test is a guide and that its just a starting point. The shaft at the top of the list is not always the best for that player.

Stop or control on frozen greens ? You land the ball short and let it run. Keep it as low as possible, and you will be fine. Similar to playing links golf. In our winter league match yesterday, my partner and i were one over gross for 15 holes, and lost to two 17 handicappers who were two over gross!

That'll be the pitching short and seeing it kick left or right or finding the thawed sodden patch and stopping dead. Too many variables and I still think no chance to control the ball properly. I'd rather wait and either go to the range or better still lie in bed watching the sport like I did this morning

Just got my new set of MP 53's last week but due to the weather have only managed to get out once, its killing me, nice new irons sitting there just wanting hit!!!!!!!!!!!

Good grief Homer its a bit of fun, and the same for everyone. Ball striking is not affected, and with the weather we seem to be due, i will be getting out on the course at any opportunity. Would rather play the course, and hit to temps than hit balls at the range any day. Staying at home is not an option, HID would find jobs for me to do

I'm sorry but I disagree. I can't find anything remotely enjoyable trying to hit a long iron into a tiny temp green knowing that it won't stop and will invariably bounce strangely. There is no way of knowing how far it will run if you play it in short and low and even the short game becomes a lottery. I just don't enjoy it and persoanlly get more from a solid 2 hour range session knowing that my swing is working well

Stuart, come tell us about your fitting and if you took anything home with you please!!!

Others, ye I had to sack my round off this weekend and go to the range and even then the balls had ice all over them from the fact they were wet then sat in the ball dispencer freazing.

Even the range session was hard going (not heated)
