As a male,70 years, 5'7" playing off 24 with the occasional slice, I need to replace my driver as it was damaged in my garage (honestly, and not after a miss hit on the course!). I do not need to draw or fade as not in my repetoire but just hit maximum distance and straight so can anyone recommend an inexpensive driver and then I can arrange to try it at my local American Golf store which has use of a driving range. My reason for asking is that I would rather have some ideas from fellow golfers before I get into the hands of the salesman who are usually quite good but nevertheless are there to earn their keep.
Many thanks.

Ping G10. Should be some bargains about, now the G15 is out. Can't really comment on budget drivers.

One of the Mags (Todays golfer?) did a review on loads of drivers recently (current issue?). Could be worth a read.

Depending on your swing speed, there are a number of manufacturers that produce offset drivers for the senior player,my Dad (75) has one and plays so much better than the Cobra driver I gave him when I swapped to the G10. Whatever, as they say, always try before you buy!

I agree with puttinpete, which ever one you go for make sure it has a senior flex shaft in it and you will see a vast improvement in your drives.

Hi mate,

dont know to much about getting the right driver , my mate plays with a Wilson Spine, ugly looking thing but goes a good distance when hit , he tried one at AG , then picked it up for £79 on line.

Cheers

Hi, Please don't take offence at my suggestion. If your swing speed is around 80 mph or less take a look at a ladies driver from one of the premium brands.
The reason for this suggestion is that the shaft will be shorter (say 44 inches)and the loft will be higher. This will mean that you have the club under better control, your on centre hit percentage will be much higher and your ability to launch the ball will be much better.
Overall you will probably hit the ball further and straighter on a more consistent basis.

I too suffered the occasional slice like you ..... I had a Ping G10 for a bit but i got hold of a MacGregor MacTec Nvg2 Draw bias driver and i havent looked back since ....It has straightened me and im hitting it longer too...
You could probably pick one up for handy money at this stage...

AG don't do Benross, but many ordinary pro shops do, and Benross are pretty good with their demo clubs as well.

I'm sure there must be someone near you that'll do the new Benross Gold range for you to try.

It sounds to me like it ticks all your boxes.

An update.
I tried a number of drivers from AG on my local range but finally decided on the Jack Nicklaus EZ UP 2 Ti 10o. I am hitting straight most of the time with distances of 240-50 yards so more than happy. In the meantime thanks to everone for offering me advice.
