Hi all,
Just wondering if I can get your opinions on some potential new clubs. I originally bought a starter set for about £100 all in and have gradually been replacing it with various bits passed down to me or bought cheaply from places. I have managed to replace the top of the bag with a Yonex driver (just been given another one in good condition but yet to try it out on the range.) and a Callaway diablo edge 4wood. I have also found a putter I like so thought with my limited budget just buying a set of irons would be the way forward. I have had a look at a number of clubs second hand through ebay and golfbidder and can't seem to find any that beat the deal below:

Just wondering if you think this looks like a good option. I have also been keeping my eye on the "for sale" section on here and a lot of the ones recently seem to be for lower handicappers than me and I don't want to buy something not appropriate. If anyone does have some second hand clubs that they think would be suitable then do let me know as I certainly haven't ruled out second hand clubs.

Thanks in advance

One of the chaps I play with has graphite shaft irons and I hit one of his a couple of times. I did wonder whether I would be better with steel shafts as I currently swing quite fast and distance isn't an issue, probably 350 forum yards with an 8 iron ;). In terms of distance I hit as far as most people I play with and a bit further than some but I am certainly not superman I just think I probably have more weight behind it to help it on its way and I swing very fast, which I think is my biggest problem with consistency.

Am I right in thinking that graphite is normally better for slower swingers and I am probably better looking for some steel shaft irons? I have also looked at Callaway X18's which would have steel shaft. Any advice gratefully received.

Whilst I have been searching through threads on here I notice Pings keep coming up especially the G15's but I am worried that at 24 I may get bullied by other people on the course. I have had a couple of lessons with the husband of a work colleague who used to be a Pro at The Oxfordshire and he said distance was fine but because I swing quickly and was pulling away from the ball rather than coming straight back for a bit there was an element of pot luck in where the ball went. I have been working on this but the problem I have now is because I am still working with my cheap set (they say St Andrews and Miura on them, so from what I can gather they are a Nova with a Ferrari badge stuck on) the shafts have started to bend so there is no chance of consistency.

Groundskeeperwilly, thanks for that, I am going down to Portsmouth on sunday and it is only about 25 mins away so will give them a call. I hadn't thought to look on gumtree to be honest as I was using golfbidder, ebay and on here but they look a good price. Just wondering if anyone has anymore thoughts on graphite v steel shafts (will have a search on here) as these would be an option as well:

I am going to the driving range tomorrow so may try and have a hit with each type of shaft.
