Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

That's better....slightly.....

Sit back, relax and listen to my grump.

As some of you know i've decided to change my car and upgrade to a lovely new (pre-reg) VW Golf 1.6 TDI Match 3door in silver. Bought the car 3 weeks ago but as it was pre-reg wasn't able to pick it up until this Saturday. Trade in sorted, deposit paid, finance agreed, tax paid, insurance bought (in a lump-sum for the next year starting on saturday) and the rest of saturday cleared so my wife and i can go for a run up the West coast...sounds great eh?

Just got a call from the dealership.

Car salesman "Sorry, Mr Bunkers, a bit of bad news for you. The guys have just turned up at the depot to collect your car and it turns out it was sold in APRIL...nobody took it off the system. We can get you a similar car but it will be December before we get it......."

Mr Bunkers "Oh dear, that's too bad"....

Only joking, what actually went down was closer to "#### off, you ######## little #### and #### your ### while you ###### a #### up your ######"...

Just called the insurance company to explain the situation and it will cost £150 in administration fees to rearrange cover to the way it was. In addition, my present car will need taxed beginning on the first of August to keep it on the ####ing road!!!

What do you guys think would be reasonable for them to provide here? Certainally they should pay for the insurance fees but should i demand anything else?

Grumpy from Glasgow

PS The dealership have just called to say "We can get you a new car in a few weeks but it will cost £250 more than the original price we agreed on............."

Seriously ... WTF!!!!!!!!!!11

Id tell them to take a running jump, that really is insulting

Look at the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Audi A3 instead

They obviously dont want you as a customer

Fragger

Have you a signed order form / sales contract ?.. send an email with what you put in here to VW customer care in uk you can access them via the web page.. vw themselves are normaly helpful ..

I can’t get to grips with anyone who wants to buy a new car. Let’s say your VW golf costs 18 grand. Two years and 20,000 miles later, tell me how much it is worth. At a guess, about 6 or 7 grand less. Pay it up over say 4 years and the car will be worth about 7 or 8 grand if you’re lucky. After buying your house motoring is the biggest expenditure you’ll have.

I have a 09 plate with FSH 2 ltr TDI Passat, leather heated seats, cruise control, the lot. The last 2000 miles since I got it, it’s averaged 52 MPG.

It cost me less than half the price of a new one and I’ll sell it next spring. If I loose a little money I won’t be too disappointed. The last ten years I’ve had around ten cars. I’m into the fifth newer shape passat right now and they changed in 2005. The last one I sold, I made a profit.

Do your homework, buy one at a keen price, run it for a while then sell it for little loss…simple. Besides, there is no hassle in selling a car on Autotrader, easy as ebay.

Oh, get an insurance company where you can change the car on your policy without paying much. I transferred from a 07 plate to the 09 plate for less than £20.

I would ask them to pay the insurance admin costs, they should swallow the extra £250 and I would also ask them to throw in a 3 year service package. This is only worth about £400 to them.

Have you had VW's before ?

I love buying new cars and new motorcycles. I never got a used one in my life. I might lose money but:

1) I get the car I want with the things I want on it
2) Warranty is there
3) It's my car not someone else's old car.

Also I could tell an endless number of stories of people who got the real bargain buying a used car and few months later spent thousands in repairs.

Once you agreed the terms, signed and paid, the deal was a contract and they are now in breach of contract

They are contractually obliged to provide you the car you agreed, on the date you agreed and I would remind them of that and point out their subsequent Breach of Contract. Sorry doesn't cover it. I would also , before writing, speak to the garage owner/Director and point out the obligations that he is breaching and ask him how he plans to remedy the matter and assuming that he is a bonefide dealer I would tell him that if he fails to remedy the matter to your satisfaction you plan to contact Volkeswagon directly after your call to talk through, with them, what has happened and to involve trading standards as well.

I would add up all the losses and costs you have been put to, including phone calls etc etc so that they are aware early on of how much it's costing

So you ordered the car three weeks ago and they didn't send anybody up to pick it up or at least phone and confirm it was sold with the holding depot until yesterday???
Something stinks.
If I sell something off of the Nissan used car programme I phone or email Nissan straight away to avoid this sort of thing happening.

I fckin hate car dealerships - and sales men (tho I think Smiffy seems 'normal')

Brother in law works in a dealership and he loves telling stories on how he fukd people over - every week.

One of his favs is how he bought a BM off work that they got as a part exchange then sold it to a rival dealer who paid £7k - the engine blew up a handfull of days later. As he bought it off the garage and the dealer took it off him then there was no comeback to his boss or himself - for some reason he managed to get 'branded' with employee of the year award.

He loves to tell stories about how they know about cars with major problems that they 'private' sell through the Autotrader so there is no warantee - crooks!

A colleague wanted the new Golf for his company car in February and was told it would arrive in june and he still aint got it. They are coming from Mexico so not many spare ones lying about.

Tell 'em to ram it.

Thanks for that Ken. I do consider myself to be quite "normal" too!! :D :D :D

But trust me....it's not all one sided.
Whilst I agree there are some shysters around posing as car salesmen, I have been tucked up, lied to and given the run around by enough customers in the past to know that it's not always the salesman to blame.

The one that gets my goat every time???
The person that comes in and buys a 3 year old used car. He's taken it out for a test drive, he's inspected the vehicle "closely"..he's paid his deposit and signed his order form to say that he is satisfied with the quality of the vehicle he has just purchased.
You arrange delivery for a weeks time.

He then comes into the dealership every single day between ordering and picking the fecking thing up and keeps finding extra little things that he wants done.
"I didn't see that scratch, I didn't notice this, I didn't notice that, there's a chip in the windscreen that I didn't notice the first time" (it doesn't matter that it's in the top right hand corner and so tiny that it's not even considered a problem as far as MOT is concerned) and in the end your refurb costs have rocketed to keep the bloke happy and the deal in bed and your profit has plummeted.
Any hesitation in meeting his continual demands meets with "I'll cancel my order, I'll go to trading standards"....

It's a fecking 3 year old car. You signed the order form. You inspected the car. You agreed to buy it on the basis of what you saw. It states quite clearly on the order form that you are purchasing this vehicle and that you are happy with the condition of it.
And if he then cancels, he demands his deposit back.
Contract? There is no contract as far as the customer is concerned, only the bits that the dealer has to comply with.

I'm really looking forward to picking up my lovely silver pre registered Golf TDI on Saturday. Its been a hell of a wait since I ordered it back in April however early birds and all that.

Just checked with the garage and they told me there was a little snag but the car will be ready tomorrow. Think the wife and I will have a run up the West Coast and a bite too eat, Oban is nice at this time of year.

:D

The financial loss on a new car only applies if you're looking to sell it after a short time.

I bought my brand new Zafira for £12,000 three years ago. I plan to keep it for 10 years.

I'll be lucky to get £1,000 for it then so I'll have lost £11,000. If I bought a second hand Zafira for £12,000 it'd still be worth about £1,000 10 years down the line.

Thats very f***** annoying, seriously if that had happened to me I would be seriously p****** off.

You paid the deposit and they sold your car to someone else. They failed to keep their part of the agreement, they need to get you a car of the same spec now and for no extra cost. Or walk away and claim your costs back from them via a small claims court.

I avoid all this, last 4 cars I've bought have been from the car auctions. No hassle, drive the car home there and then.

I hope you can get it sorted.

Howdy boys,

Just a quick update on the whole saga.

After the calls on thursday between AC (Dealership) and myself, we arranged a meeting on friday at the dealership. AD (Salesman) was liking like the dictionary definition of "biscuit-airst" but still did not personally appologise blaming others for everything that went wrong. He got his manager (JF) to come out and speak to me. Then, for the next 12 minutes i was treated like a moron with JF using his "Apprentice"-style buisness speak to bamboozle me with cliches and buzz-words...and ultimately offer me a car in December for MORE money as they couldn't cover the cost of the metallic paint!!!!

Asked for my deposit back and they both went off for an eternity only for AD to come back and say as it was now after 5pm i couldn't get the deposit repaid until Monday morning at the earliest!!! Seriously guys, WTF!!!

Immediately left and called back a few other dealerships acorss Scotland and came up trumps from Western VW in Edinburgh. Yes we have that car, yes it is available, yes we can reserve it for you at no cost until you see it, yes we can beat AC's price, yes we will beat AC's trade-in offer, yes we will include mats, full tank and free 1-year roadside assistance.

Went through yesterday and bought the car from them. My wife and i were very, very impressed. From arrival to driving away in the new car, turn around time was just over 2 hours and they couldn't have been more helpful. What a difference between the 2 dealerships.

Lesson = shop around and listen to word of mouth regarding other people's experiences. I was guilty of looking at the price only but next time i won't be fooled!

Ray

Now that you're sorted you need to write to the MD or whatever of AC and spell it all out, emphasizing that between them AD and JF have cost them a sale, any future sales and work, and a bucket load of bad publicity as the word is out.
