Thought I'd let the newcastle golfers know that the new American Golf store is open at the metrocentre. Well stocked and plenty of space to move, unlike other stores.

There is 1 big fitting trial bay and another smaller bay which they are quite happier to let anyone have go. The reasons fella who asked for 4 drivers and toe'd every shot. I was in fits.

Being a new store there was no second hand gear in sight but that will change.

My only problem with the place is the long putting area. Very spacious and plenty to try but everyone who knows me knows I'm not the best nor the worst at putting. I sank 19/20 putts with an assortment of putters, even trying to miss within reason. I suspect this area is very slightly cambered to direct the ball simply on the basis that I'm not that good. I hope I'm wrong and if so I'm going to buy the TM ghost tour putter but I think on this occasion I'm right

I'm getting on with the Killarney putter on only played with them as the bays were full and was going to have a go with some drivers. Again not that I was going to buy, just to waste some time

Got to salute the AG I went to last week for loft and lie adjustments.

After I told him the irons were 2nd hand eBay jobbies, the pro insisted on checking and recording all the specs BEFORE changing them.

This meant double the work for him (putting them into the machine twice). But it's a good job he did, as the bloke I bought them off had already had them changed quite drastically (but said nothing).

No extra charge either; £3 per club.

All three AGs I've ever been in have the putting area set up to feed towards the hole. It's standard practice to be honest, gives you false confidence.
