New 2019 rules

Cabby, don't go there bud, you'll end up with an infraction/ban.
The Illiterati are taking over the world.

Haha....that would be a shock eh 🤣 but it is bizarre that this is the strictest forum I've ever been on yet the only forum I've been on that finds txt talk acceptable, hey ho....

I understand that. I was attempting (apparently unsuccessfully) to point out a perceived misunderstanding of the current Rules - as stated, I read the original post as there was currently a required "to .... be watched" while identifying the ball.

Please excuse my total failure to pick up your point earlier.
Despite reading your post more than once, because I know you to be precise.

Many apologies.

I see that the rules in 2019 are to allow a player to drop where a ball may be lost or OOB for a 2 shot penalty if allowed by the Cub under a local rule

Any views?

Yes, it is an awful decision. Knock one OOB so drop in the area and carry on playing 4. Or knock one OOB, then hit 3 off the tee and hit that OOB then hit 5 off the tee and go OOB again etc. Basically it is a cop out for people who struggle to hit the ball straight.

With you on that Gordon. Dinosaurs of the world unite (should I add a hashtag to that?).

Here's a question, we have a 90 degree dogleg hole and I'd guess there are more OBs on this hole than any other. You carve one OB but not sure how far down, where do you drop? Round the corner of the dogleg or before?

And if you tried to carry the corner but just failed, does nearest point of relief get you past the corner even though you failed the carry?

Remind everyone what playing 5 or 7 off the tee brings to the table ?

How about something as simple as a higher gross (and therefore nett) score? Or maybe the difference between winning and not winning a competition?

We're all playing to the same rules you know.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean by this in the context of my last post.

Of course we are all playing to the same rules but if somebody can't drive the ball straight and gets to drop 200 yards up the fairway which takes the trouble out of play for their next shot then they have a distinct advantage over someone who has to keep hitting balls off the tee until they get one in play.

As I said, it may speed up play but it's a stupid rule.

I don't follow this at all Why does your second player have to keep on hitting balls off the tee? He has exactly the same option of not playing a provisional and dropping in the vicinity of where his ball is lost. And if he does keep on hitting balls off the tee, he clearly isn't one of those players you mentioned in an earlier post who will be hard done by for being to hit the ball straight.

I think you have missed the point, maybe this explains it better

What I never agreed with, was with the old rules was a penalty was needed, the penalty is you hit and lost the ball, then hit again from the original spot, that was the penalty(distance). The penalty levied for the sake of it IMHO. They still have the penalty but you can now remove the distance penalty. You have to think was stroke and distance why was it made as a rule like that, because someone decided that, just like the new rules.

I would imagine the OOB new rule, will be optional to start with, then in years to come it will become compulsory at club level, hope so.

I'm all for the new rules I have read, why should I not be, I am not resistant to change and happy to make the game easier to understand with less complicated rules and faster to play.

The Rule for lost and out of bounds has quite a history, which I'm sure the RB are aware of. See the history here..... http://www.ruleshistory.com/lost.html
