St Patrick's school, Liverpool Christmas 1979 - star billing - Liverbirdie plays Mary, in the nativity.

I cant help it that I went to an all-boys junior school.

It gave me a great start in life, despite me wanting to be a roman soldier.

It did me no harm, and rumours that wearing women's clothes hasn't left me, are scurrilous.;) Sounds like more getting their knickers in a twist over a kid's play, than I did back then.....:p

I've always thought it rather convenient that any good morals in the bible are teaching us how to be good, yet the questionable and downright wrong ones are either misunderstood or not to be taken literally.....

Some very dated and wrong thinking in a modern context in the first five books of Old Testament. I tend to take most of my direction and strength from the teachings of the New Testament - just the way I choose to do it. Many many take their values and direction from wherever best suits them.

The writers of the New Testament books only had the Old Testament books to refer to as they interpreted these old writings in the context of the coming of the Messiah and his teachings. In my denomination we do not simply read and believe literally, we read under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to be able to understand what we read in the context of today.?

Love the Christmas story and nativity plays - though they do present a very specific interpretation of what’s written ?

All this reinforces my view that religion is the biggest source of conflict out there , and here we only started on about infants\school children in a play !!!

...and how lovely are these Nativity Plays - and the joy that the children (mostly) take from taking part in one.

Still amazes me how millions of people worldwide celebrate the birth of a baby where the bird has blatantly gone behind her husbands back and had some fun then made up a cock and bull story playing on everyone’s gullibility.

He was a carpenter too. Imagine rocking up at the jobsite and the lads on site saying, “hey joe. Can you do us a few dovetail joints and How’s that Virgin Mary wife of yours?”
“Pregnant lads and it weren’t me but it was the big guy upstairs. Aren’t we lucky! I’ll get the hot water going and make us a brew”

Kevin Bridges does a great bit on that. All the site lads are round wetting the baby's head and having a smoke... it's brilliant.

Attended my daughter’s nativity yesterday afternoon. Amazing stuff, was an absolute joy. My little donkey did brilliantly. Heart strings around the room were being twanged to the nth degree by all of the performers. Tears were being wiped away by the burliest of blokes. The audience totally immersed and along for the ride, laughing and clapping at all the appropriate junctures.

It even provided a bit of unscripted comedy. Five seconds of silence were followed by a teacher trying to attract the attention of the next narrator. He was about 4 or 5 and totally oblivious, looking off into the distance, whilst raking around in this left nostril. By now everyone was watching the boy. He proceeded to withdraw his finger and was inspecting the contents as he caught the teacher’s eye. He proceeded with his lines, with his bogey ridden finger outstretched, as if orchestrating the crowd like some disgusting conductor.

Young bradley tash had his nativity play yesterday which never involved nativity ?
Anyway it was 20 mins of crimson songs, jokes eg what do you call a snowman during the summer. Puddle.
A few jokes and poems. All finished off by adults dancing " baby shark" style to baby Santa baby reindeer etc.
Much preferred young Layla tashys nativity play. But again it was harmless fun which the kids enjoyed.
