Ok ours isn't rousing and joyess like others but I really dislike players who don't sing!
Ireland yesterday everyone sung and was proud to be there! Just watched Ukraine and was surprised there was about 4 or 5 players not singing...

Maybe its because of where Im from but national anthems are a waste of time. You are wearing the shirt, what more do you need to do?
Like Formula 1 also, you are a driver driving for yourself and your team second, why do they play a song you might not care about anyway? Anthems are territorial and will eventually be phased out, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow.....

why play national anthems after all?
we want to see players performing the job they know best and not one most of them dont master at all

"God save the Queen" just needs to be played a bit faster, but Rule Britannia or Land of Hope and Glory would be better.

Or we could have the Great escape music so Rooney could learn the words, you know the one..

Da Da, Da Da Da Da Da, Da Da, Da Da Da Da Da Da Da
Da Da Da Da, Da Da Da Da Da, Da Da Da Da Da Da Da ...England! :D

Agree, totally overrated at international level. He'll be the unsettling factor in the final group game if he plays.

We'll see about that.

Show me a better player than Rooney.

He is what England have been lacking up front - linking up the play, setting others up, scoring goals and frightens the feck out of the oppo's defenders.

Thought this was a thread about National Anthems, not a Rooney bashing one.

Presumably you mean English players better than Rooney. I can think of a fair few otherwise.

Re anthems, I always like to compare the attitude of the rugby players to the footballers. When you see the rugby lads singing it you almost get the feeling they're playing for their country against another country (from all countries this is, not just England) whereas the footballers give the impression that they're playing for a team against another team.

As Billy Connolly once observed, we should change our National Anthem from "God save the Queen" to the theme from the Archers. All together now ... dum de dum de dum de dum, da da da da da da...

Not all verses are patriotic for a UK National Anthem.

"Lord grant that Marshall Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen."
