So who is the most famous golfing name connected with your club?

Having just joined Vale of Leven, our female course record holder and lady champion for a good run of years is/ was Anne Laing.
Not a huge name granted but for a small club I think that's pretty good.

Played Windyhill the other week which is the home course of Janice Moodie - she must absolutely slaughter it!

Our club only opened in 1995, so at the moment it would be my son - Steve Surry. He played in The Open at Turnberry in 2009, and has also played Challenge Tour and some European Tour events over the last couple of years. Not much of a name to drop though! :p

Chris Wood and David Howell have recently come along to use the new short game practice area, but I don't think that we can actually claim association with them on the strength of that.

given that it's your son I think that is a superb name drop - well impressed

Nick Dougherty used to work in the clubshop at mine (Gathurst GC). I watched him tee off on the first once and stick it to 3ft (from 290 yds). I almost sold all my gear... I bet he wished he could play like that now.. Also, we have one of our old juniors on the Challenge tour at the moment.. For the life of me I cant remember his name though...
Mary, I hope your lad does well, Im about to follow him on twitter so that I can see how he's going.. Wasn't he down in SA last week?

Rory McIlroy (hon member after his years at our place with Michael B)
David Feherty (member back when he was an amateur)
Norman Drew (ex club pro who played in walker cup, Ryder cup and Canada cup.)
David Jones (ex club pro and European tour player, course designer)
Michael Bannon (Rory's coach and our head pro)
Gareth McGimpsey (walker cup captain, lots of amateur championships and beat Jack Nicklaus on practice day at the Masters in 1986 when Jack went on to win.
Pretty good for a wee club from Co. Down.
