i know its my first post, but i'm really pi$$ed off.
been playing now for 15 months, shoot in the mid to low 80's. got a bit off a bonus from work so i thought new irons . i've tried the TM r7 tp's before and loved them. so i went onto TM site to look for my nearest fitter. went down and spoke to the guy. guy started fitting me. 1/2" longer, +2 lie, reg shafts. got my irons this monday, straight to the range. just something not right with them. had a lesson on tuesday with my coach, he told me about the fitting prosess. completey different from mine. so today i paid £35 at another local golf store to cheak out my irons.
this fitting process involved messuring my wrist to floor measurement, accordding to the TM chart with the fitting equipment i needed a full 1" longer shafts. used a launch monitor and it said my swing speed needed a stiff flex, lie still +2. the first shop i bought the irons from did not measure me, didnt see me hit any balls, used a ping chart which said for my height i needed 1/2" longer. so now i'm annoyed with the first place, spent £380 and traded my irons in to get a set which is out of spec for me.
shop was closed tonight so i will have to see them tomorrow about this.
but i just had to get it off my chest.
thanks

Scarey :(

There's a lesson in there somewhere for all of us.

Hope you get it sorted out tommorrow.

Welcome.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

WHAT DID I TELL YOU ALL THE PING CHART LIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA                                 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

THE PING CHART LIESSSSSSSSSS

true it does, according to my measurements at the second place i went with TM clubs i needed 1" longer and callaway was 1 1/2" longer. this guy didnt measure me and said only 1/2" longer. strange to say the least.

The process that you went through is not what I would class as custom fitting. The 2 sessions that I had lasted nearly 2 hours each and then spent another half an hour trying out the clubs when the arrived back. All in all I suspect that the club fitter spent nearly 5 hours in total fitting me for a driver and a set of irons.

THE PING CHART LIESSSSSSSSSS

Jeez..taken your pills today MVP?

The Ping chart is the same as the cobra chart and every other chart, it's whomever is measuring and fitting that differs. Stick to standard set up clubs and you wouldn't be wasting hundreds of ££ like this guy!

...I can feel MVP's tension from here.. ;)

I was fitted by Ping a year ago and absolutely love my i5's. Handicap coming down, straighter and longer.

Hope you get this sorted boosh.

now thats what i would call cutom fitting , the first two threads were just measured,

seen the ping custom fitting on the program out of bounds.

The ping fitter went to the ping chart and got the measurements of it.

He used this as a starting point only rather than blindly picking a club up.

After the full fitting experience of launch monitor and impact board ect the size chart was right for 1 or 2 things.

To only use the custom fit chart on its own then you will be very lucky to get the right fit, it is only a starting point for the pro to move on from.

So i would say if the board is used correctly then it has its use but if used wrongly then its useless.

is it fair to say that if you want ping clubs ask for a ping chart , the same goes for callaway, TM,etc, if you go in asking for TM clubs and the assistant pulls out a ping chart should you not stop him and insist on the correct chart

Hi boabski.About 18 months ago i went to a very well known golf retailer and was fitted for t made r7 tp irons.I hit down on the board 2 or 3 times and was told that i needed 1deg flat and 1/2 short and no chart was used. I took them at their word as i knew no different and spent just over £500 on them. All the time i was using them they never felt that comfortable,so a couple of months back i went to pings and what a difference.Standard length & lie.The technician got me to hit quite a few balls off the board and my measurements were actualy taken with a measure.Ive posted a few times on here about the fitting so am not going to go into it again but ive experienced 2 types of fitting now and i know which one i can recommend.

Ive only just started back through injury but the clubs i now have feel perfect and i have not hit it sweeter since i started playing.I am currently off 9 but am confident i will be lower by the end of the year. The clubs feel that good.

At my fittings, there was no reference to charts at all. It was all based on my swing and the way I struck the ball. The only measurements taken were as to grip size.

Agreed. Neither the most fruitful nor constructive post ive read on here. A little disappointing from an experienced poster.

I just feel sorry that the guy has had to learn the hard way and don't think point scoring or gloating over someone elses misfortune is very nice or clever.

same here gb72.
I never saw a chart everything was done via my swing, ball striking and trac man.And a very competant person not like the shop assistants i could mention.

Agreed, the clubfitter spent the first 20 minutes just talking over a cup of coffee, discussing my strength and weaknesses on the course and getting a feel for how I played. Next 20 minutes was spent looking at what I had in my bag to see what I needed, what I could do without etc. By the end of the session he had a white board full of notes, calculations, loft gaps etc to work on. He always said that his intention was to build me a bag full of clubs and not jsut to deal with the driver I was buying at the time. Since then he has dealt with my irons now only need him to look at wedges. The most important fact was that where possible he wanted to make what I already owned work better for me rather than sell me something new.

As a contrast, am more than happy to give details of the person who gave me such excellent service. The Club Fitter was John Whitehead at strike right golf in Northampton. It is a small operation but the attention to detail is second to none. His web site is also worth a look as it makes interesting reading and dispells a number of myths spread by the golf manufacturers.

All very weird. If the first place didn't put you on a launch monitor, how could they know your speed to choose the correct flex? That alone is strong enough "evidence" to reject the goods IF what you asked for was a proper fitting.

1/2" longer and 2 degrees upright is the "old chestnut" for players 6.0-6.2. If I owned a golf shop and some tall-ish geezer came in, this is what I'd flog him!!!

Sounds to me like you got the M&S version of fitting, measure the collar and off you go. If you weren't put on a machine, you were sold a lemon......

go and give 'em hell!!

Sorry to disappoint you thats a terrible shame. but this guys post has proven a point i been trying to make. so any evidence to back me up is good. Its not the guys misfortune im gloating on its people realising the ping chart is not a true fit, so they should not even represent it as such.

Custom fitting ------ A source of adrenaline..... ...just kidding. :D
