How can you guys keep playing golf? The back pain is almost unbearable! I use to be a professional boxer and I swear I never have such a pain on my body!

It may be a sign of a swing flaw. I'd get your pro to check your swing out. I can easily hit 100+ balls and then go out for 18 or play 36 holes in a day (going to have to in the club champs on Sunday)

what? only a hundred?

Been known to hit 300 in a session, though not done that for a long time, which probably explains why my performance isn't as good this season.

Hang on, There was one day the other month when I went out on the accademy course around 6am, did 9 holes, came in hit 150 practice balls on the range, everything from wedge shots right up to drives etc, then took out about 25 balls to work around the putting green, then used them around the green chipping & pitching, then some bunker work, bit more chipping & putting, back onto the range, got rid of those 25 balls to the various flags on the range, then back out on the course, before coming back in & hit another 75 balls. Was a great workout & felt fine if weary. Unwound with a little putting & chipping for another hour with some of my own premium balls, before getting in the car & back home. Think I was there for about 10 hours all told.

Really should do that more regularlly.

btw, if you feel something going on with your back, then take it easy, it could be you didn't warm up properly before practice, though I'd have thought a boxer would have that sort of thing sorted out before you start anything.

Perhaps you are using different muscles. Maybe building up strength in those muscle with gentle rotating excercises might help.

Yeah see a golf pro not to mention your phisio....ouch, it does sound painful

Definately sounds as though you are either a/ doing it wrong, b/ swinging too hard, c/ a combination of a and b, or c/ you have wrecked your back doing something else and it just flares up with golf.

See a pro and a physio.

I suffer from a degenarative disc problem in my lower back and have for ten years.

I've been in less pain the last 12 month since starting golf than I have the previous nine years!!!

300 balls a session, i would never hit that, i could but it wouldn't improve my game.

I played 4 rounds go 3 days last week, with range, chipping and putting sessions in between, 3 rounds this week too. I always warm up, and down.. No problems for me but i am only 23!

I hit around 300 on the range the other week to get a feel for the new sticks, now I need new sticks cos the groves have flattened :D

As others have said, maybe flaw in your swing, either that or you're hooking when you should be jabbing ;)

My back should be sorted by next Thursday :). Apparantly my spine is not in line (whatever that is!)
It gonna cost me more than a new ping driver! I do wonder sometime....

I resorted to a private chiropractor to sort my back issues with my sciatica. Have to say it is the first time for ages I am pain free. Although my wallet is lighter by £30 a session and I was on 1 session a week for the first 6 weeks.

The only time if suffered with my back is if I am doing too much work with my wedges. If I start to feel a twinge I can stop.

The same unfortunatly can't be said for my job, where we have no choice & have sufferd more back, knee, ankle, elbow, wrist & hand injuries at work than I care to mention. However its taking up golf a few years ago that near enough over night cured my elbow & wrist problems. Well maybe not over night, more like a few months. Bassically building up the strength in the tendons, ligaments, muscles etc of whatever joint with the controled excercise of golf helped no end. I nolonger suffer from pains in my elbows & no-longer wake up with dead hands full of pins & needles. Its great.
