Hi Everyone
Well, the deed has been done. I Completed my 100 holes of golf in a day last Friday (16th Aug). I thought i'd share my experience with you all, offer my hints and tips for anyone thinking about doing this for charity. I hope you all don't mind.
Arrived at club at 4.30am, a very cloudy, damp morning. Teed off at 5.15 in darkness, didn't want to leave it much later so played the first 2 with a 5 iron!. could finally see more that 150yrds on the 4th, but it was such a cloudy morning, visibility was poor. 1st round in in 1hr 45 min and shot a +4 74 which considering the darkness at the start i was pleased with.
Rd 2 was a total washout. it started to rain on the 2nd tee and in 25 min the greens flooded. i have played in rain, but have seen nothing like this. the green were borderline unplayable. managed to knock it round in 80 (+10) but in all fairness, some of the greens that i 3 putted were soaking.
Rd 3, Super!. shot +1 71 , my lowest round shot at Harborne. Once the rain stopped at the end of the 2nd round, by the time i got to the 3rd green (after having a 35min break) you wouldn't have guessed it had rained (unless you went in a bunker!) was so warm dried the course out very quickly. 15 pars, 1 birdie and 2 drop shots. really happy . By this point i am still feeling good. Shoes rubbing on my ankles a bit, but felt ok.
Rd 4 , Started to feel it! shot a +7 77 and was +2 at the turn, but on the 10th, it hit me in the legs like a hammer. really struggled on the back 9. body stopped doing what the brain was telling it, and i tried to fight it, fail!
Rd 5 , +12 82. Ouch!!!! and thats my body, not my score. 12 bogeys, nothing worse than that, but by this point my legs had gone, left knee was starting to get saw.
Rd 6 -- 10 Holes -- +2 and strangley enough, i played my last 4 holes 2,4,3,5,4 , which is -1 par , which for me, was a great way to finish. i gave up lining everything up, and the ball when where i wanted (think i learned something here) Pared my last hole , held a dodgy 6footer too. Finished at 19.15
So, i hit a total of 426 Shots (Avr of 4.26 per hole) rd of 74,80,71,77,82,42 and have around just over £3000 which we are so happy about.
My Quick Tips
*Buy a pair of decent, comfy shoes -- As recommended by Tony Johnstone on Twitter
*Break Regulary and fresh clothing as many times as possible, if time permits
*Eat Little & Often through the day and stay clear from tea, coffee and bulky meals
*First aid kit in the golf bag,
*Have a caddy
*Only do this if your raising money for charity
Thanks to everyone on here who donated and offered there support. means a lot to me and it shows what a great community we have here
