11 months out after a hip operation and he's now pulled out - I played 9 holes 3 weeks after having my first hip replaced and 5 weeks following the second one.

Is he a wimp ? 😁😁😁

Shame he has pulled out - i think going 5 sets was just a bit too early in his comeback for him , hopefully he can build his fitness up for the final big hardcourt season

I assume that, as he's pulled out before the start, there will be an alternate taking his place rather than giving his first round opponent a walkover...
Best to pull out now rather than play a set and a half and then call it a day.

He only had the op in January, so, perhaps a good decision. There is always next year :)

An air of inevitability about the announcement as he wasn't really making positive noises after his other recent grass court appearances and I think in his mind he already knew he wasn't fit enough to play, certainly to compete

Thought he should just play, use the matches to build fitness, he gets a setback so be it. He's past 30 now and may not have many more chances to play.

Not a bottler though. To take 3 slams in an era when 3 players were consistently better than him (Rafa/Fed/Djoko) is half decent, think that'll be his lot now.
By comparison 3 majors as a golfer would be pretty special - guys like Padraig, VJ, Payne Stewart 'only' have three although fields in golf are bigger.

Commentary box beckons (if he can break the dour drawl).:mmm:

Murray’s never been a bottler , no idea why people keep trotting the line out - hopefully he can lengthen his career with good time management of when to play - one of our best ever sporting greats , got goosebumps this morning listening to that final point from 2013 final - just brilliant

He will target the US Open, perhaps even just wait for the winter season. It is about getting ready for 2019 now. Both Federer and Nadal have come back successfully from tough injuries so he may be able to do the same.

Unfairly unloved due to his dour voice. What he has achieved is exceptional however, certainly in terms of modern day UK tennis.
