Mr Westwood

I agree totally with everything you say although some might say Dancing on Ice is the devils work!

I used T&D for no other reason than I remember their 80s routines!

I don't even know what 'Dancing on Ice' is but I'm pretty sure I don't want to!

I really like Westwood but I am afraid this notion that he is the world number 1 is a total joke.....he will be in a months time maybe but he will not stay there for long.

I have been saying it for years that his short game is mediocre and he has a suspect arse....check that facts and figures over the last 5-7 years and I think you will find plenty to back up my opinion and feck all of that has to do with the fact he's English.....I would be telling you guy's who continue to cover your eyes up to the facts the same thing if he was Scottish.

When there's a sweaty within a sporran of winning anything of note in golf again, I might start taking notice of this kind of garbage about an obviously world class player who happens to be English.

Weekend performance at Race of Dubai last year - faultless golf from Westwood, keeping clear water between him and Great White Hope McIlroy. Was that 'arse falling out under pressure'?

With the exception of Kaymer, how many of the Ryder Cuppers finished well? Westwood was in the mix from the get go and carried the point role which has added strain. That, plus injury, means that fading on Sunday was no surprise.

You could argue that Kaymer's very poor showing at the Manor both explained his extra energy and his motivation and inspiration to win.

Then again, the day certain members on here ever talk sense about English golfers or Woods (won the US on one leg my arse) will be the day Torvill & Dean will be performing for Satan.

Worst post off the month

No doubt Westwood is a great player but No1 in the world - doesnt work for me.

Worlds No1 player for me has to have at least 1 Major behind them and even that is a little light. Its the ranking system that sucks, really not his fault, certialny top 10 in the world but no way is he No1.

Being unable to get that Major win, is kinda like playing really well in your clubs medals and then never doing anytthing at a County event.

Win a couple of majors and he will rightly own the No 1 spot without any controversy.

I can guarantee you that if this ever happens the Westwood haters would find a way to nullify it.

"Oh, he was gifted them, he didn't win his Majors, his competitors lost it and he was handed them! He's still not World Number 1 calibre. Tiger on the other hand, he's a world number 1" etc..etc..

Something to that effect.

Good analogy there JJF69, we all like Westwood, who wouldn't, but he's not got the class or record to be a world no.1
The head dippy swing and folded left arm at impact are not good to watch either. Ok that's got nothing to do with it but I like my world no 1's to have great swings. Woods, Singh, Duval, Norman, Faldo, Price, Couples, Els all have had watchable swings. ;)

I'd swap my right arm for Westwoods swing!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, your list is proof of that.

Woods, Club spends more time dropped on the floor after impact than in his hands
Singh, Long wristy overswing, try keeping your grip on the club VJ??
Duval, Hold it as strong as possible and hold everything off stopping the snap hook??
Norman, Now there is a bottler.
Faldo, Paint by numbers??
Price, Blink and you miss it.
Couples, Big loop outside, drop back in on the way down??
Els, Conceded :D

I'll give you Singh, his isn't as likeable as the rest. Couples swing is effortless and I always liked Duval's swing - when he was at his best 10 years ago I'd have taken his swing over anyone's as he was so consistently good.

Bottom line looking at all 12 world number ones since the rankings started is that they are all Major winners, 8 of the 12 having more than 1 major to their name.
Westwood don't belong there..........yet! ;)

I was always scared Duval was just about to shank it with him having his head up looking at the hole almost before he completed his backswing!! :D

I agree that Westwood shouldn't be #1, but as the kids would say (I am down with the yoof) "hate the game not the playa". :D

It's the ranking system that sucks, getting to the top by not playing for 2 weeks says it all.

I don't think he'll last at number 1 very long but I guess its like any pinnacle, you have to get there first. Personally I think it will start to rotate around four or five players (Woods, Mickleson, Westwood and Kaymer) until the younger guns start to catch up.

Actually if you think about it, it might not be a bad thing if it gets so tight at the top. It means you know you have to really play well on a consistant basis or in thoery your could go from number 1 to number 3 or even 4 in the world dependant on how others get on. Should be interesting come the matchplay WGC event next Spring if they are all bunched together to see who gets the furthest and steals a march

It seems Westwood may not get to number 1 at the end of the month after all. Kaymer has entered the tournament that week and if he wins it he'll leapfrog Lee and Tiger into the top spot.

Hell, he's won the last 3 he's entered - no reason why he can't make it 4 in a row.

I am not sure, that is why I asked. My question is based on the widely accepted maxim that anything English consciously or sub-consciously raises the hackles of a Scotsman.

Pish !!!! ;)

I am all for England at most things from cricket to golf. Westwood is a good enough player and good luck to him if he does get to No.1 considering where he was 4-5 years ago.

Thank God yer footy team are guff ;)
