Mr Westwood

You can forget Tiger, his days are gone. I don't think he'll ever be the same player again. He might have the odd good round, he may even win the odd comp, but he will not dominate again. Westwood will be number one shortly, due to the weird way the rankings are calculated, but I don't think it will last. I think the number one spot will be passed around a number of players (Westwood, Kaymer, Stricker, Mickelson..etc) without any one of them dominating.

Dont entirely agree with your comments re Tiger but if you are going to make them about him you have to make them about mickelson!!! hes been awful this year he has had the whole year to get passed tiger and he has not got close. I do think there is a new breed of golfer coming through but i dont think they are anywhere near as good as Tiger is at his best...

TBH, I think Westwood should stop worrying about the No1 spot and concentrate on his European No1 title.
I've always rated Kaymer and if it wasnt for his Go-karting accident, I strongly believe that MK would had been the Race To Dubai Champion 2009 and not Westwood.
Looks like MK is about to prove who is the real European No1.

I'm with you. When Mickelson won at Augusta I thought that he would have raced past Tiger but he's failed to perform. Given all that has happened to Tiger this year his performances at The Masters and US Open are mind boggling. I think he has been playing better since the divorce was finalised and looked as though he was enjoying the Ryder Cup. He'll be quietly determined to prove all the people that gave written him off wrong and surpass Niklaus and I see him becoming a force again next season. He won't dominate like he used to but he'll be consistently in the mix.

Kaymer obviously likes playing on harder surfaces - links courses/roads etc rather than quagmires and mud - CelticManor!

How many of us would have played the shot from the road across the 18th at St Andrews..... You can tell he gets his clubs for free

Nah,he couldn't cross the line...again.Mr Woods won a major on one leg, that's the mark of a number 1....this guys biggest problem is that arse that keeps dropping out from beneath him,not his leg.

Martin Kaymer, I would have to agree, looks far more capable of being world no.1 than Westwood. Kaymer can close the deal, Westwood had been found wanting there time and again.
Westwoods short game isn't good enough for world no.1 and he has been trying for years to land a major or tournament of real note. Age is going to start working against him re injuries now he's close to 40 (believe me I should know! :()
Everyone wants Lee to get there cos he's a down to earth likeable guy but I just don't feel his game is there or ever has been there to be labelled a world no.1 or a true great.
I think there is too much sentiment on here for him because he's English (British) more than he's that good a player tbh.

You've said this before and I disagreed then as I do now. The guy is clearly injured and struggling to compete so why no credit for still getting into a position to contend rather than focussing on the negatives. Top footballers, cricketers, rugby players etc carry an injury and don't perform 100% in a match and you don't say their arse fell out because the big centre back, quick bowler, prop etc intimidated them and the bottled it

You don't like Westwood and that's fine but I think you are way off the mark with this inability to finish it off nonsense. Even in majors, surely better to be in contention and give yourself the chance. If you keep knocking it only takes another Monty moment (US Open) or Van de Velde to open the door and let him stumble home. Once he gets the major he deserves no-one will care how it happened

Is it because Westwood is an Englishman that you keep criticising him?

That aside, I have met him plenty of times when we were kids and he is a great bloke. Good luck to him and I hope, like we all should hope really, that he makes number 1. It would be a terrific achievement for him and a fillip for European golf in general.

He is struggling with a bad injury at present which is definitely affecting his golf. Fair play to him I say for giving the Dunhill a go, as he wanted to earn the number one spot, rather than inherit it through absence and dodgy maths.

GO on Lee!

Totally agree with Snelly's comments above. Yes Tiger won the US Open on one leg, but then spent the best part of a year out of the game, Lee obviously doesn't want to do that. Fair play to him for playing in the Dunhill and fulfilling his commitment to the sponsor and his playing partner. I don't think tied 11th or whatever it was with only one good leg was a bad show. A model pro who many could learn from, including a certain Mr Woods.

It's really strange logic.

In your world there are about 119 chokers every week out on tour as only one person can win.

Then again even they didn't really win it, just handed to them on a plate by all the other chokers. :D

Whats nationality got to do with it???

I am not sure, that is why I asked. My question is based on the widely accepted maxim that anything English consciously or sub-consciously raises the hackles of a Scotsman.

Not that I particularly care what you think. You keep worshipping at the Altar Of Yon Laddie McWoods and I will stick to what I want to support.

It would be dull if we all thought the same eh?

I agree it would be dull if we all thought the same...

and yes i do like woods but i also like westwood...

but what does nationality got to do with it? tigers american so, westwoods english so, kaymers german so,

This is a thread about golf not birth place!!!

When there's a sweaty within a sporran of winning anything of note in golf again, I might start taking notice of this kind of garbage about an obviously world class player who happens to be English.

Weekend performance at Race of Dubai last year - faultless golf from Westwood, keeping clear water between him and Great White Hope McIlroy. Was that 'arse falling out under pressure'?

With the exception of Kaymer, how many of the Ryder Cuppers finished well? Westwood was in the mix from the get go and carried the point role which has added strain. That, plus injury, means that fading on Sunday was no surprise.

You could argue that Kaymer's very poor showing at the Manor both explained his extra energy and his motivation and inspiration to win.

Then again, the day certain members on here ever talk sense about English golfers or Woods (won the US on one leg my arse) will be the day Torvill & Dean will be performing for Satan.
