Moving to Scotland - advice please.

The port is a dump. Town centre is like Baghdad main street.

Greenock, Gourock, Inverkip Wemyss Bay area would leave you a 30 min commute depending on your travel times. Well away from the city but some nice pubs, restaurants and good train links if required. And the scenery, views ofvthe Clyde are unbeatable.

You could also try Largs which is further south but you have the A737 bypass to slash journey times.

Well as this is a golf forum , I say start with a golf club you like , then check the transport links in , road if you going to drive or Trains if you not , then find a home after that , hope it helps ...................................

The traffic is not like South of England, you can generally get around quite well.

When I tried to drive back from Edinburgh City centre to the airport, I'd rather drive round the M25 anytime!!
