been perusing the old Gibbo song archives and a few songs sprang to mind, Riders on the storm, Bohemian Rhapsody etc

what would you vote/class as an iconic song and for what reasons?

Bohemian Rhapsody must be up there

Thriller

Paint it Black

She Sells Sanctrury

Mr Blue Sky

Lynyrd Skynyard Freebird ...last song played after the electric wrestle at the NAAFI at RAF Waddington every week...

Yep thats up there

There is one film that contains a multitude of iconic songs - Forrest Gump - brilliant sound track

Stone Roses - Fools Gold. I can still remember where I was when I first heard that song, and the difference it made in my life after that. It's influenced every part of my teenage years (I was 15) and is the song that I credit with most of my musical tastes now..

Tough to call as it depends on the situation.
The following stand out for me:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama.

SteppenWolf - Born to be Wild

Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water

Pink Floyd - Money.

On a Mellower note...

Elton John - Your Song

As a dedicated ParrotHead, any Jimmy Buffett one!

Oh and Tina Turner - Simply the Best - especially with the video of Milton!

Without actually picking out a song from the time, surely something from the 50's or 60's is.

Jerry lee lewis, the beatles, Elvis, Little Richard etc.

This was when music changed irrevocably.

London Calling, the Clash

Song sums up the late 70's. The threat of a nuclear disaster, and the likely outcome. Song still gives me shudders when I hear it.
