Watching the golf on telly the other night and between the ads it tells you that Els has the most birdies in one round (10) and that umpteen pros have recorded 8 birdies IN A ROW.

What's your best in a round and can you remember your final score?

The most birdies i’ve managed in a round is 4 (September Medal last year), ended up with a gross 73 which I was well pleased with. Even started that round off with a dreaded bogey.

Does anybody else suffer from the ‘It’s definitely my day syndrome’ ?? i.e you have a blinding start to your round with Birdie, Birdie and you think your going to set a new course record, only then for your round to completely fall apart for the next 16 holes ?? I’ve done that 3 times this year and it’s oh so frustrating.

Think I’m better off starting all my medal rounds with a double, at least then things can only improve ;)

DHM.

I managed 4 consecutive birdies once. Was having a fairly uneventful round up until that point then suddenly I was in great shape.

Why is it that birdies completely change the way you feel?

I once started a round birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie in my club champs - then had an 11 on the 11th before the greens flooded and the round was called off, a day of mixed emotions!

What was far more rewarding was finishing eagle (holed a 9-iron), birdie, birdie once to just scrape buffer in a monthly medal!

I've twice made six in a round and one of those included four in a row. On another occasion I made three in a row and then a ONE four holes later. My last medal round included NINE straight bogies, however.

I too have twice made 6 birdies in a round, the first time I also took a 12 on the 6th hole (I'll just squeeze it through that gap in the broom...NOT) - gross 77 but a good cut in handicap nonetheless, next time I'd six birdies and four bogeys for -2, which is about as good as I can go.

I once started a 36 hole club championship with a 9. The first at my club is a simple 320 yard par 4 with no trouble. It's fair to say I was somewhat disappointed.

Things didn't improve much through the day either...

I had one of those magical days a few years ago where after a double bogey at the tenth I burned the course up with four birdies and an eagle. OK the eagle was a fluke, I holed a wedge into a short par 4, but hey, I came back in 29.

Nowadays performing like that is all a dream!

Had 5 a number of times. 3 in a row's my best.

A friend of mine is a member at Dalmahoy and went out for a few holes after work. He started with a bogey and then had 9 birdies in the next 11 holes. Bit of a Caddyshack moment cos' he had to walk in from the 13th tee due to bad light!

Ye canny win!

The best ive managed is 2,one a par 3 an one par 5

rest of round was nothin to write home about
but always try to take best bits of game home
with me an leave the worst on the course !

Sadly, only 3. I tend to play matchplay a lot and often lag monsters with no expectation to hole. What's decidedly odd though is that I tend to make them on short par 4s not par 3s. I don't often go for the pins on par 3s.

I birdied the first two of a major (h'cap) comp once...off 14?...the rest of the 4 ball (from three other clubs) didn't quite know what'd hit them. I finished on 8 over and was way off the best net score.

I like them in Stableford....mmmm....tasty, they don't half repair your score.

My best is 4 (2 on the front, 2 on the back) with an eagle (9 iron approach on a par 4) but due to the 12 bogeys and 1 double it ended up being a decidedly average round..... couldn't even buy a par that day...... mildly frustrating to say the least.
__________

Grip it -- you know the rest

My h/cp is 14.5

I managed 9 in one round but I also threw in some horror holes - two triples and two doubles plus some other bogeys to finish with a gross 75. Aside from that I've had 5 in a round and 3 in a row is my best run of consecutive birdies.

Geoff Baker (6 handicap)
