I haven’t played Moortown, though as I have family in Yorkshire and it’s a undoubted quality course, I’d like to..

However, that’s not the reason for this thread

I just saw the Moortown instagram account post something (I follow lots of nice clubs/courses on Instagram…I am cool/sad like that🤣) about work that’s been carried out….There is a photo of the 9th hole in 2024 and 2025….and an explanation of the work undertaken and why

But to my mind the course looks so much more appealing before the work has been carried out!! It’s not even close, I cannot understand this🤪
Has anyone played it recently and can shed some light?

Very hard to judge from pictures but you will clearly lose fewer balls now 😄. Interesting to know what the members think, they are the ones that will notice the changes most.

The course may have looked more appealing in 2024, but it is probably more playable for the majority of members now, and surely that is what matters the most

This picture from Hole19 doesn't really shed any light on playability...

That's likely to be how it looked before, since they rely on Google earth I think, which isn't updated all that regularly. (A hole on our course is still showing the old layout from over a year ago.)
I can't really tell where this work has been done. But it doesn't look like anything you have to hit the ball over. If anything, judging by the green side bunkers, it looks like that new bit of bunkering is over the back left of the green!

Yes, the sandy scrape that they refer to is on the right of the par 5 12th & replaces what was a real scrubby area that you could very easily get into when hitting your blind 2nd shot onto the oblique fairway..... always difficullt to get the right line.... well I've always found it so.
Yes, it's a very large bunker area & far different to the scrub there before & as Nick says rather un-heathland like but is a great improvement as it forms the backdrop when approaching the 9th green.
It's my top Yarkshire course as I'd put it just ahead of both Alwoodley & Ganton for you average Club golfer...... truly magnificent.

I played it for the first time last year and again last week. I can honestly say I didn’t even notice the change and enjoyed it just as much.

The 9th is a cracking dogleg and you have to remember that photos lie. They are usually taken from the best angle that can be from where you won’t play from and photoshopped to hell. The pic above from 2024 is the perfect example, taken from the 12th fairway, with the par 3 10th going across the front of the pic so definitely not in play or in view.
