Monty, his part in my downswing...

Killing some time between the parkrun and going up the club for a round yesterday, I stumbled on this YouTube clip of Monty winning at Crans in 1996 (it's on the European tour channel) n

He makes swinging the club look so easy. I made a mental note to try and just swing if like him when I played, and lo-and-behold, not exactly montyesque, but had a much better rhythm than normal and really hit through the ball. Driving in particular was much improved.
Oddly, never got the gentle Monty fade, just a little draw.

It is a fabulous tempo, I agree. My FiL used to say swing at the tempo of Monty's belly turning 😄. It is an image that has stuck with me, helps stopping my arms go too fast as well, and when my game is going off I think of that. A great tempo for amateurs to follow.

I spent 5 hours photographing Monty at Slaley Hall. The rythm of his swing was brilliant. He hit about 20 shots to the par 3 6th & hit the green every time
