Here's the background....took up golf 2 years ago and joined Burton on Trent GC. Struggled all last year but finally started to get a bit more consistency in my game this year - started the season on 17 and am now off 13 (played 16 comps this season - 6 drops, 2 increases and 8 buffers). My target was 14 for this year with single figures within 4 years of taking up golf.
Last few rounds though I have been struggling with a draw - not too worried about that, the prob is I tend to pull the ball as well, so the pull draw is killing me and stopping me getting my handicap down further as we have several OOB down the left - any tips for stopping a pull?
Anyway, now the purpose of the post - had the round of my life for 16 holes last night - After 16 holes I was +3 with 13 pars and 3 bogeys (two lipped out putts as well!). Then finished triple triple because of the fault above. Still a +9 round which I was pleased with. I hit 9/14 fairways, GIR 8/18 and putts = 32.
I gather the stats from my round are not bad for a 13 handicapper, but how do I now focus going forward and try to play like this regularly? I know that in saturdays comp I will play nowhere near this well and get frustrated knowing I have the ability but just cannot do it when it counts!
I really lack confidence in comps and always get on the first tee expecting a +0.1 but should I think like this after last night's round? I played against a 9 handicapper and beat him - and he played well !
Do I have the ability to reach single figures being this inconsistent?
Cheers
