... and not sure what to do.

Presently have an iPhone 4 on O2 and whilst I love the phone and what it does, am not prepared to shell out over £40 a month again. Also, haven't been overly impressed with O2 over the period, as texts etc have been delayed on numerous occasions, in one case taking three days to hit my phone!!

Mate of mine has just got a hold of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but it looks absolutely massive to me and fairly flimsy in terms of build quality.

Had thought about maybe just a SIM only deal for a few months until official news of the iPhone 5 breaks.

Any views?

Cheers guys.

They arent flimsy at all Del, I have the galaxy note which is even bigger again and I love it, screen has gorilla glass which should be equaslly tough as the iphone models too. Android gives you better control over what apps are left running etc and power management.
I had a 3gs and 4 in the iPhone range and to be honest, cant see me going back to apple at next renewal neither.

If you not prepared to shell out £40 a month then why are you considering holding out for the iphone5

Personally I now have a HtC one x and an iPhone4 ... Love the screen on the Htc ... like the iphone integration with my iPad. The htc feels rock solid to me.

Personally I also like the lumia range .. horses for courses :)

I got my upgrade last week, its a work phone so I dont need to worry about the monthly costs as we use all inclusive tariffs. I went from the iphone 3gs to an iphone 4s. I consider it a huge upgrade as it is so so much faster and more robust.

I read a review that pretty much backs up what I have said and it also said that it was a fair upgrade from the iphone 4.

I actually did not have a choice as white iphones are the work standard but I understand the HTC and Samsung are very good phones.... there is something about apple products that just seem to stand above the rest to me though.

Just my thoughts..

Oh and if am not mistaken the 4s is the first duel processor iphone

Have been monitoring my phone usage over the last few months and a 300 minutes/unlimited texts/500MB data allowance should see me ok. Can surely get pretty much any phone with that kind of tariff for circa £30 per month or less?

Also, I'll get around £250 trade-in for my iPhone 4 to factor in to the deal.

Move over to 3, they have been superb since I changed. Cheaper and better 3g coverage than any other UK provider.

I am also due an upgrade in September and think I'll go onto a sim only deal for a few months. Save a fortune.

Vodafone better than O2 then, Greig?

We use voda for work and coverage seems to be better. Cruncher for me was the poor (and I mean POOR) customer service that O2 have provided and even when I said I was switching they gave a verbal shrug and a "oh well" attitude.
I'm also paying £6 a month less (for more) and didn't have to pay a bean for the Note whereas o2 wanted £70 up front.

Interested to read that, Crawford, as the only feedback I've previously had about 3 has all been negative. :(

I was dubious about changing to 3 but its been absolutely fantastic. Great service and as I say the best 3G coverage in the UK.

I will be staying 3. I fell out with Vodafone over an upgrade and also fell out with 02 who tried to keep billing me when I had cancelled my contract. I fought with them for over 5 months before they refunded me and I still never received an apology!

Grrrrrrrr

I was happy with Orange when with them in the past! 3 has surpassed my expectations BIG TIME!!!

Is there such a website that shows you each company and their coverage around the country?

Due an upgrade next week, with 02 but think they are bloody expensive compared to others so I am on the lookout for something too...

Each supplier should have their UK coverage on their websites. I am dubious as to the accuracy of them (especially the 3G maps) and for me they are a bit on the generous side.

Wow,there is a lot of nonsense getting posted in this thread! I don't know if you know this guys, but my job is a guru(retail technical specialist) for O2 and I have worked in the mobile phone industry for almost 4 years.Craw, where are you getting your info from about 3? They own the least amount of 3g masts in the UK! they also have no 2g network at all,so if you ever venture out of a populated area, good luck getting a signal at all! The S3 is a really good handset, but if I were you I would wait till autumn(go on a one month sim only until then) and see how good the Iphone 5 is.You should be able to get it for less than £40 a month as long as you pay something up front.

Deke, no nonsense on my part. I have worked in the customer services industry for 15 years, progresses through management and in to the world of business improvement. And I have to say that, with possibly the exception of Yodel, O2 have the single worst customer service (centralised) that I have encountered. I feel well placed, on experience, to make that judgement.

Having worked for Orange as well Greg,I can say that often it is all down to the individual you are dealing with mate! I could give you horror stories I have heard from various companies, but O2 have won many awards for customer service other companies have not!

That's it. I realise this with 15 years in the contact centre business. My experience was not isolated and nor was it indicative of a certain level. Due to issues I have had with O2, my handset and several other things I have had to contact O2 many times in the past two months and not once have I been dealt with in a manner that would leave the individuals concerned in a job at my place.

Which awards have they won out of interest as they do not feature on the CCF awards list for the last 4 years. I am an accredited member of the Contact Centre Federation of Managers and have never seen O2 on the best service award list. First Direct, John Lewis and Frasers/Dunns have monopolised these for around the last decade.

I will go back to BT Cellnet, sorry, O2, just as soon as the devil takes up ice-skating and wins the Hell Championships. They showed utter contempt for customer service even when I was spending loads on my iPhone bill. Funnily enough, BT Cellnet was the same. I guess changing the name didn't change much else.

Never ever again, no matter how many bloody gurus they have.

Did you ever arrange an appointment with an O2 guru mate?

No, it was never given as an option, probably wouldn't have helped with the billing issues I was having and overall O2 didn't learn that customers are driven by the experiences they have during their last interaction (why many companies now use NPS scoring) and as such I cancelled as after 8 years of being with them they gave no reason why I should be loyal to them as a provider.
