MIZUNO MX 200 IRONS

Peter, I think you'll prefer the MP-52's.

Thanks mate, I've just got my new MX-200's :(

I've just been playing with TaylorMade TP irons for the last few weeks and played very well with them. i cant beleive how big the head is on the 200's after playing with these for a while!

I think playing with a more bladed club makes you concentrate more. However, lets not take anything anyway from the 200's they are a fantastic club, good length, accuracy, feel and most importantly forgiveness on the ones that you dont hit right.

Quick question on the MX200's......

Some retailers are giving away a free wedge with the MX200 iron set, so you basically pay for the 3-PW and then have the option of various lofts and bounce angles as a sand, gap or lob wedge. Given that the pitching wedge in the iron set is a 45 degree, I believe, what would be the best one to choose as a sand wedge to supplement the set, ? 53 degree or 56 degree?? :D

As far as I was aware, the two MX200 wedges are 50 & 55 degree so your sand wedge choice would be the 55.

Well, I've booked a custom fitting appointment for this coming Friday (26th) at 9.15am.

I'll report back here on the findings........

Well, went for my custom fitting session this morning and was very impressed indeed.

We first of all talked about my game and my typical shot shape, then he measured my height, wrist to floor measurement and hand length. He then measured the length, loft and lie of my current clubs and reckoned they were probably an inch too short for me and a couple of degrees too flat, as far as the lie was concerned. This would certainly explain why I seem to be hitting everything left of target!

I was then handed a 'taped-up' MX 200 iron, which would show both where on the club the ball had been struck and also where on the sole the club had made contact with the mat I was playing off. Incredibly, every single shot I hit with it was straight out of the sweet spot, with each ball impression being almost directly on top of the previous one! The mark on the sole also indicated that I was hitting the ball on the correct swing plane. The fitter even questioned whether I really was a 21 handicapper, which was nice to hear! :o

So, bottom line is that an order has been placed for a set of shiny new MX200's, 3 iron to pitching wedge, plus a 55 degree sand wedge, R300 steel shaft, half an inch longer than standard, 2 degrees upright and with two wraps of tape underneath the grips. I'll get an e-mail in the next 7-10 days and will then be invited to collect them and hit some balls with the fitter present, just to make sure I'm happy with the clubs.

Can't wait to try them out on the course!

Can I ask a cheeky question DelB? How much? You don't have to answer if you don't want to but it's something I'm going to have to look into sometime soon & would like to be prepared for the cost.
