So, those that know me on here (not many these days, old faces are gone) know I am a mizuno iron fan, and honeslty, I dont think there is a nicer looking iron on the market right now. But boy are they amazing to hit.

So, the back storey. Fit for my 52's at clays in Wrexham about 8 years ago when they had the full fitting centre there. Eyes haven't wandered since. But, since the mp5's came out, I cant help myself. I was tempted to just buy a 6 iron to hang on my wall in the man cave! Seriously. And I still might.

So, I pop into hot golf today, with my own 6 iron which has a regular nippon shaft in it. I My bad shots lately are a hook. A strong draw is my usual shot and since I've steepined my swing I'm hitting it higher. Ive made some nice changes since I was fit 8 years ago but ive suspected for some months that the clubs just dont 'fit' me any more. Curiosity got the better of me and so there I was stood in the back room warming up with my own club whilst the chap was asking the usual questions.

Hit a few poor shots with my 52's to start but as I was stiff it was to be expected. Straight away the chap pointed me at the more forgiving mp25's as he clearly thought I couldnt hit what I already had let alone the blade like MP5's.

Having hit a few more of my own a bit better, I started to see some usual numbers. Average carry with 6 iron was 152, total about 163 I think. About what I would expect.

Tried the MP25s first and they were around 158 carry with a total of about 168 total. Felt lovely, was quite impressed.

Then I moved onto the MP5 with an S300 shaft and WOW. Middled them all, couldnt even feel the ball leave the face. Couldnt stop hitting them. Average carry 165 total distance was almost 180. Nice high flight and lovely dispersion. I was smitten. Absolutely in love. My only issue, EVERY single ball was right of target by some way. Even with my club. Ive convinced myself it was either how the mat was setup to the radar. And it was enough for me to walk out without stumping up any cash, but I absolutely can not get them off my mind.

So, having read the reviews and listenend to all the youtube testers I knew they were going to be good but didnt beleive how good they would be, looking at how small and blade like they are they completely surpassed all of my expectations. Mizuno have pulled off a corker with these, and I'm already contemplating how I'm goingbto get these in the bag.

Oh, and I was offered 4-pw for £550. Nightmare!

Nice. great price too!!

I would go somewhere else and hit them again or ask for a demo club and take them out doors.

Was there a reason he gave you S300 to try, having regular Nippons in your own clubs?

If you liked the S300 but weren't straight, I'd ask for a few hits with R300 in.

Edit: Assuming you were on a sim, is it possible you were aiming right of where the LM thought was centre.

Are your old 6iron and the new one the same loft? A lot of manufacturers are just cranking up the loft now, may account for extra distance.

Mizuno and their MP irons are pretty much standard loft that hasn't changed much in a number of years

Massive difference between Nippon and S300. Huge.
Regular Nippon, light weight, pensioners shafts, compared to an S300, which is heavy, and stout.

Be careful what you wish for. ...

Alex1975, I wont buy them until ive been to a mizuno performance centre and had a full fit.

Region3, The reason he gave me s300's I suspect is because thats what he had made up in the shop. Although my reason for testing was because I suspect the nippons are too light and flexible. Like I say, all bad shots hooking.

It was a sim. Im certain it was to do with the set up. Certain. Even though everything was way right, it was consistently right with a draw. Some more or less than others, some higher, some lower depending on club and shaft.

Chico, I did say to the guy my irons although are standard loft and lie, may be a little out of shape having been struck for 8 years without being checked, but if anything, they'll be stronger anyway.

Murph, your spot on, nippons so light but then ive never swung the club particular quickly anyway. I tried project x 5.5 and KBS. The s300 where the ones that felt they behaved most suited to my swing.

I've been reluctant to change my gear for so long, I have only changed my putter in the last 6 years. I wont buy until Ive had a full custom fit at mizuno and I'm 100% they are right for me.

If you haven't hit them yet, go do it!

Just buy them....best impulse purchase I have made!

I have the MP4's in the bag and I've been surprised at how easy they are to hit. Surprisingly long too. Not unlike the 32's to be honest. Great clubs 👍

Honestly, it was difficult to walk out without them. But I've promised myself a trip to Royal Birkdale for a propper fitting session.

Cant argue the 4's are better looking but the 5's should not do what they do for how they look.

The MP5 is fairly easy to hit for a blade style club. I demoed one recently for a laugh, and was pretty impressed. There is a Mizuno fitting studio at Bearwood Lakes and the pro told me they had fitted a surprisingly large number of people into the 5 because of its playability.

I love Mizuno and have been playing them, off and on, since the 80s, starting with Pro Originals. The current blades are so much easier to hit than those it is almost comical, and the range of shafts and fitting options just add to that.
