Mizuno Fitting

I always fancy hitting HTL's 58's but he's got scaffold pole shafts and wants even stiffer. Mizzy do make great clubs. I use to have Callys X14 and X20 and they look bloody horrid now compated to my TP's and more so against most of the Mizzy range.

There is only one solution Ian. Buy now and hack up the price of your lessons

Ping fitted me as 2.25 degree upright and 1/2 inch longer.
Mizuno fitted me 1/2 inch longer but 1 degree flat!
Now I'm sure there are some differences in "standard" between Ping and Mizuno but 3.25 degrees?

Standard lie on a Mizzy MP58 6iron is 61 degrees
Standard lie on a Ping i15 6 iron is 61.5 degrees.

That's at least 2 of us then. Cyberstar C280 irons, for my sins.

Good clubs. The only problem with them in my case is the plonker weilding them.

We really have got a Mizzy v Titleist v Ping v TM (?) thing going on this forum. Now where's the Cally supporters!!

IMO Mizuno and Wilson staff are the best manufacturers for irons because both look great (which ever model you choose) and they offer a large range for all types of golfers from full cavity backs to blades.
TM are just expensive and ugly. Except from the ones Homer has got. They are confidence inspiring at address and feel nice from the middle.
Titleist are tooo expensive and a new and hardly changed model comes out every year or two.
Ping. Well IMO their designs do not change dramatically like Titleist and even the G10s do not drop in value when the g15s come out.

Had a wonderful couple of hours at the Oxford Golf Acadamy today. In my search for new irons I'd looked at Mizuno's with envious eyes but shyed away being a bit dubious about custom fitting due to my experience with Ping recently. BUt I took the plunge anyway!

Met up with Marc, the Pro, and I hit a few shots with my 6 iron. Too much spin, too high a launch and not enough distance! Then I had a go with the shaft analyser kit - sure enough 3 swings later and the DGS300 was the shaft followed by Project X 5.5 and KBSTour stiff. Several different heads were screwed onto the shaft, MP52, MX200, and MP58, and I tried AP2's, and R9TP's as well.

By far the best was the MP58 - just lovely.

Then onto the length and lie - the bit I was dreading.

Marc showed and explained every step of the fitting, even adjusting the lie on one club in front of me to get it right. After about an hour we had the right configuration. It got my spin rate to about 5000, launch angle to about 17 degrees and a carry of 183 yards with a 84mph swing speed from a 6 iron! That's more like it. And the ball flew and flew and flew.

Now I've just got to decide whether I can afford to have the 58's or whether I can afford not to!

Really impressed with the set-up at Oxford. Nice guys, good kit, nice range, good quality Srixon balls and great service.

Now, where's my credit card?

Oh Dear
