Miura Wedges

I've no problem with someone buying a new wedge if they know how to use it.

If Joe Bloggs can't (or doesn't know how to) use the wedges he already has, then buying a new one would be a waste of time (and £150)
It's a bit like buying a Ferrari before you've even passed your test.

its this simple shot i am practising at home at the minute. i often make ths shot harder than it has to be. soft hands bob?

im using all manner of clubs. works best with 8/9/pw. after that i dont make good connection.i will take it to the course today. im doing it on 20 feet of carpet which is lightening quick so not getting a gauage of how it will roll out on a green. just working on the technique. found the soft hands worked best. always have to remember to lean to the left or its blade city off the pillow at the back wall.

Anyone got one of these? I'm in love with them, after a 60 degree which is gonna be a Xmas pressie.

I look at these and think god, how beautiful are these!

Am I mad for even considering paying circa £150 for a single wedge?

Mmm, maybe mad.

If I was spending £150 on a club I'd want to try it first. As for the, "you're a high handicapper... blah blah blah." You can be the best chipper in the game and play off 28 if you can't drive or putt.

You want to buy it, you buy it. I'm sure all the nay sayers would tell someone to get stuffed if they were told what they should and shouldn't buy.

Miura wedges? Go for it. Like you say, it's your cash and you may as well duff, shank, thin and fresh air with the most pointlessly unnecessary, massively overpriced, total waste of time clubs that are currently available.

:D

Having woken up in a better frame of mind today I've changed my mind - buy the Miuras. I look at it like this.... (a) you might have been a 27 h/capper for the last 20yrs... not much is going to change so you might aswell have clubs in your bag that you want/like whilst you play your weekly fourball (b) you're a 27 h/capper who wants to improve, there's nothing wrong with the Miuras only that you probably can't hit ANY club very well right now... so you'd need to practice with whatever club(s) you buy.

£150 for something you like isn't much... I know a guy who bought himself a womans car (Audi TT) just 'cos he liked the look of it ;)

jealousy is a terrible thing.....

I am sure the Miura wedges are lovely, but I think a 27 handicapper spending £150 per wedge is insane and a waste of money. But he is entitled to waste it if he likes.

There are a couple of main questions with wedge selection. One is getting the distance gaps right, but for a 27er, I think that could just be 2 extra wedges beyond the PW. I don't think anyone, even Phil Mick, needs a 64.

The other question is whether you are a digger or sweeper, i.e what sort of ground impact do you have, what divot do you take and what bounce is therefore required. This is partly connected to the type of courses you play.

If the OP has a wedge sized itch he needs to scratch, I think he would be better off going to a wedge fitting at Titleist, saving a lot of dough and getting something that suits him. if he really wants, he can also get the Vokeys blinged up by Vokey in the US.

Funny how no one would think twice about spending £150 on a driver, but spending it on a club which is arguably more important is controversial. Having said that you would want to be custom fitted forking out that much!

Percentage wise, how often do you use a driver compared to a wedge? Bet a wedge get used a hell of a lot more!

If this post was about me spending £300 on the new titleist driver no one would bat an eyelid!

And for that price I'm gonna take the wedge to bed with me :p

Any pro will teach you how to chip and pitch the ball.
Here's a couple of vids to get you started.
The idea is to try and hit the ball UNDER the shaft resting on the baskets.
If you do it properly, the ball will go OVER the shaft

i practised this we shot today at lee park putting green before heading out. didnt have a fringe chip until the 18th. used the 9iron to leave a tap in. simple stuff :) thanks !

Go buy it if you want to. It's your money. However I wouldn't buy online. If there's a specialist fitter go to him, then be sure the spec is right for you

Yep, getting custom fitted for this by MGL (Nicky) at Sharpley.

I really don't get the negativity. If you want a new wedge then buy it. Practising chipping with a Miura will be more fun than with a Donnay wedge

If this was a thread about buying two Vokey wedges for £150 no-one would bat an eyelid. I'm sure they'd be no comments about your h/c being too high to use a Vokey...

difference being a £300 + driver with the right fitted shaft would be a massive improvement in accuracy & maybe distance vs a driver half the price.

a miura wedge will make no difference to your game vs a £75 offering.

not really negativity, the op asked if he was mad... this implies he kind of knows the answer. Everyone has said fill your boots & buy it, but don't expect a material benefit
