I do prefer the uniformity of the shafts but I can see how many would keep an old faithful in the bags. If I ever go down the C/F route for my driver and fairways it'll be interesting to see what happens and if they got a matching set
Absolutely this. I have not had matched driver/fairways in 20+ years. They are not as the OP described, there to complement each other (well they are, but only from the manufacturers standpoint of getting you to buy a set), they are there to do very different jobs.Interesting point about manufacturers matching the shafts through their ranges of woods. Not quite sure that is the correct philosophy though. I want my driver to have a penetrating, lowish flight whereas I want to be able to hit my 3 wood with a bit of height off the deck so I can get it to stop on the green.
So, horses for courses which is why I don't have matching woods.
What if you want to draw your driver, but hit a fade with your fairway, and a high soft landing rescue. Same shaft for all?
Probably more important to get the shafts similar than the club/manufacturer.
