Mindset and Ability of a Bogey Golfer

One shot comes to mind when I was with Smiffy at Bearwood Lakes..... he had blocked a drive about 5yrds into the rough and there were several small trees around, we discussed his shot and all he had to do was punch one out onto the fairway through a large gap in the trees, not being greedy.... my final words were "hit it hard enough to make it to the middle of the fairway, you've got 50yds to work with"..... he then quit on the shot and duffed it 4yds tight behind one of the small trees into an unplayable lie.

Ahhhh. One of my better shots on the day if I remember.
I would also just like to point out that when James says I blocked it about 5 yards into the rough, he doesn't mean 5 yards off the tee in total. If I remember correctly, I absolutely flushed that drive and it was at least 180 yards down the fairway and rolled off into the rough. It was a par 5 and I distinctly remember not holding back, and hit it out of the screws.

I would add that if I took my best score at every hole on the course (taken from the last 4 rounds of golf) then I would be +6 gross.

Annoying to think about it really!

Nice thought - but stick it on the shelf to be updated from time-to-time, as it will just get you frustrated if you even start for a second thinking that you could play to a 6 hcap - golf just ain't that sort of game :)

I've always advocated treating every hole as a par 5. Make that all the way around and you shoot 90 (less 28 and hard to beat!). What you make up on the par 3 and short par 4's you can give back on the longer par 4's and the 5's. Basically as others have said it is all about understanding your strengths and weaknesses and having a game plan. Course management can help save numerous shots

Yup - that's what I did.
