I'm currently looking at a new putter, in the del mar style but thats personal preference.
Anyhow after rolling a Scotty and a Cleveland I got to say I quite like the milled feel, what's your preferance, Milled or Insert?

there are a lot of different materials in milled heads, and an even bigger choice of inserts!

hardly one for an x or y preference

I'd had milled putters for years, including a Scotty Cameron Del Mar. I swore blind I would never try an insert as was so happy with what I had with the milled face.

I now have an Odyssey 2CS with a White Hot Pro insert

Better feeling and with a more consistent roll and control of speed is better.

Is it all down to the insert? Of course not, but I like what the White Hot Pro insert gives me.

Milled putters are basically a manufacturing process to ensure a flat face. Some advocate the "ridges" in the milling help impart spin or help with roll etc, but what the head is made of is of more importance really. Feel is totally subjective and various materials and designs appeal to each individual in their own right. Currently rolling with a studio stainless newport 2 (milled) but have equally had success with a cast Ping anser. Not a great fan of insert putters of any type really.

I've no issue whether it's Insert or Milled. I've used them both - including milled inserts! - and don't really care one way or the other.

It's the overall feel that's important to me!

Don't like soft inserts. To my mind, the harder you have to strike the putt the more inaccuracy you introduce. I like my current putter, although the ball comes off softer because of the insert behind the face and isn't as effective on slower greens. Thinking of going back to the milled Ping Anser on the slower greens.

Inserts during the summer on fast greens - milled on slow greens in the winter

I have one of each

I like my milled for its weight and the faster pace of the ball off the face (esp on putts inside 6ft) & I like my insert for the reduction in spin on long putts & added control when I need to add/reduce pace
