With the miserable winter my clubs have been in the garage and my last years purchase Ping Hoofer bag has suffered from the damp and is covered in mildew. I've tried using a mold remover but the mildew seems to have impregnated into the material of the bag. Anyone got any experience of cleaning mildew from a bag - or am I stuck with it.

Try a shower cleaner or a mild bleach solution applied with a nail brush. For something stronger try a decorator's supplier as they should have something. Whatever you use, test a small area first.

Cheers - I did try a bleach based cleaner and that had some effect - but the mildew seems to have got 'into' the 'fabric' of the bag - it doesn;t seem to be on the surface but has penetrated through the material. Will have another go tomorrow.

More than likely your bag is a write off as there is likely to be mildew inside the bag as well as outside, and as you can't turn it inside out to clean it properly the bag has had it.

I went through 2 bags last year before changing to the small tour style bag I have now which is fully waterproof so no more mouldy bags for me.

very hard to get rid of mould and sounds like the bag is destined for the bin, this will be a warning to everyone to dry your gear if storing, also remove any sweets or chocky's or you will end up with a mouse nest inside your bag and a half eaten bag to boot.

It may sound extreme but I have had a lot of success with jet washing stuff with a mildew problem.
If you don't have one then down the car jet wash, rinse an area to put the bag on the floor then hot soap jet it inside and out plus inside the pockets too. Then a really good rinse will blast the spores and residue out of the fabric.
Wear old clothes or waterproofs as you will get wet and you will get some funny looks from people but that's half the fun!:whoo:

Mild bleach solution in the bath, and submerge the bag in it and leave to soak overnight. Then rinse/shower off.

To the OP, please don't consider this hawking but I am about to offload a Hoofer which has been round a course no more than a dozen times having been bought last year. If you wanted a look before eBay, I'd always sooner let it go on here. In 'as new' condition.

I wouldn't soak it at all with a bleach solution no matter how mild as the bleach will damage some of the materials the bqag is made of and even if it doesn't show straight away it will start to degrade much quicker than before.
Personally I avoid bleach as much as possible with anything that has multiple materials in it's construction.
I had a lovely gore-tex jacket for the bike that didn't get used for a few months as I was wearing my full leathers and it got a bit mildewy while stored, used a mild bleach solution, rinsed really really well but the stitching rotted away after about 6 months.
Jet wash all the way now with anything I want to deep clean, on the washing line and give it a good blast then leave to drip dry.
