• Thank you all very much for sharing your time with us in 2025. We hope you all have a safe and happy 2026!

Mike Harris - top man!

Have to agree with the general Mike H/GM love in. He has witnessed me play my worst ever golf (The Belfry) and was nothing but encouraging, and some of my better golf at the superb Rory Underwood charity day which was a day that I will not forget (and may look to enter my own team this year as is local and a great cause)...

If you do and the price is right, I'd love to take part. Any excuse to play Belton Park!

Haha!

Hoping to have that out to you within the week. Postage is looking about £10ish for a courier so fairly reasonable. I have a box, just trying to figure out what to package it with to keep it nice and safe.

Nice one Jon, hopefully playing next week so will give it a try then. I hope you haven't left it on the slice-a-roonie setting.

Oh cripes, what day are you playing? I'll try and make sure it's there.

Don't panic, I've reset it all so it's no longer on slice-a-roonie...Adjustment tool enclosed in case it misbehaves! :D

I have to say, genuinely, this place has restored my faith in the human spirit more than I would ever have imagined.

Once the season has started I will see if I can get some details from MikeH. I have a bit of local interest as well.

Are you up this way in Feb/March. If I try this one month trial membership at Belton Park I should be able to sign you in so may put a forum 4 ball together.

Trouble is with Stoke and Belton is that you can only sign 3 people in and its members guests only at weekends.

Anyone is welcome to a round at Stoke any weekend. Viscount17 has been round a few times as have Bobmac and Region3 has played once.

It will come as no surprise to some of you on here that, recently, I was a bit of a wally! I saw the FJ rain glove thread and, before reading it in it's entirety, flashed off an e-mail to Mike with my details as requested. I then proceeded to read the thread and realised that all 25 spaces had been taken up in about 0.5 of a nanosecond! So, I mailed Mike again to apologise for my wallyness. Mike, very kindly, responded and we had a quick chat about my Wilson FG Tour irons. For those that don't know, in October 2010 I was lucky enough to be selected by Mike to go to The London Club and be fitted for these irons by the Wilson Tour truck. One further bonus about the day was that I got to meet Padraig Harrington - a none too shoddy prize!
Anyway, I said to Mike that the clubs were very much still in the bag and that they'd got my handicap down from 10.4 to 7.5. Unbeknownst to me, Mike forwarded this feedback to the guys at Wilson Staff. Today, I had the very pleasant surprise to receive in the post, three Wilson Staff FG Tour gloves from the guys at Wilson!!! The timing of that couldn't be better as my current glove is looking rather ropey.....

What can I say? A wonderful gesture from a great man and further evidence, if needed, that this forum is the best around by a country mile!

Many thanks Mike and the guys at Wilson Staff.

AW

i wonder what your handicap would be if they gave a years supply of FG Tour balls? come on WILSON this could be an even better story

Big thumbs up to Wilson (and Mike). I've been lucky enough to meet all the GM guys over the years and a better bunch you wouldn't wish to find. Tom Miles, one of their snappers is a good egg too although he does insist on only snapping me when its not going well (be too dark before I hit a good one is his normal reposte). Well done Wilson and GM

At first I thought that Mike had sent AW some wet wipes to keep his shoes clean. :D

But seriously, having met Mike a couple of times, I can only confirm what others have already said. He really is a top man.

I'd read Mike was moving on... or should I say thought I'd read it, so when I commented on how he'd be greatly missed I received the response where did you hear that :o

Was a Jezza thread I hasten to add

It must just be the Irish that Jezz can't stand Brendy. I just got an email from Jezz saying that he's putting £300 behind the bar at Machrihanish for us to enjoy ourselves and how much he's looking forward to the trip. I also agree about Mike as Jezz says that the £300 is going back to Mike as "expenses" which Mike has pre authorised!

How cool is that???

Just spotted this - 'me-news to' - re-arrange these words to form the correct response.

Might buy you a nice bottle of fizzy pop, Crawford, if you're kind to me with the pairings and don't laugh when I snaphook it into the sea on the 1st at Machrihanish on Sunday...
