Migrant problem in Kent/Sussex

A question for folks that may know. What happens to migrants who come across in boats? They get picked up by the authorities mid channel but we don't hear what happens to them after that. How many stay in the country, what percentage are removed? (in effect, is this method of entering ultimately a succesful one?)

I'm not looking for a right or wrong answer to whether migrants should come in, I'm looking for a practical answer.
 
They go into detention centres for processing, I've heard a figure of 5% get returned , but haven't fact checked it. They have no papers so difficult I guess to very any claims made, but the fact they've paid people traffickers tends me to believe they are economic migrants

I don't know the answer and would be interested to know as well. My guess is they are put in detention centres and we then spend millions of pounds fighting the Cherie Blairs of this world to deport them. Money that could be spent on essential life saving services.
 
If the French did their job there would be less of a problem. I'm not sure why the boats that pick them up don't head straight back to France. That's got to be a better deterrent.
 
I find it hard to understand how France allows these people to live in the open as refugees and don't process their status and put them in assessment shelter. Can anyone honestly imagine the Uk acting this way.
 
Or maybe this more right wing BS, the French cannot force them back and will escort them until they are handed over to the Royal Navy.
We both have a duty to preserve life at Sea.

The French issue is that they should stop the boats from launching.

That duty to save lives at Sea applies to the French Navy as much as the Royal Navy. If they find people in difficulties at sea they should rescue them, not escort them to someone else.
 
If we wish to hear more on this we will most probably get all we need from Farage at 6pm on LBC this evening. Would make a change from him moaning about just about anything the government does these days (I don't take a lead from him btw :) )

Escorting them to make sure they don’t get in to difficulty.

Why should the French care? Sounds harsh, but every illegal that lands on our shores is one less for them to deal with.
