Seems I've developed getting them. Headaches not that bad yet, I'm more concerned about my vision. At times I can't see a thing, just a blurred mess. I just been prescribed sumatriptan.

Any advice on dealing with them? Cheers 👍

Can't help you mate.. My wife gets them (has done for many years), and she hasn't found anything that works long term.. She did have a prescription medication (Imigran - which contains Sumatriptan) but this became less effective over time..

Stay hydrated. Eat well and try to reduce stress are the only pieces of advice I can give..

Dave, I get the odd one from time to time (probably induced by reading some of the comments on here!!). You can buy 2 stage tablets over the counter (Migraleve?) that seem to work for me, wmight be worth a try?

Migraleve is OK, but in all honesty, as soon as you see that little blurred dot, get home and lie in a dark room and sleep it out. Nothing really works.

I don't get the headache until about 30 minutes after the blurred vision has started. I just get home take the tablets and ride it out. I get about 4 or 5 per year, but they can make me sick also.

I was slaughtered by migraines until I had acupuncture.
I tried everything else an was so desperate that I felt I had no choice. That was back in 1979 when acupuncture was seen as voodoo, only practiced by witch doctors.
It worked for me and totally changed my life.
I used to get them every few days, I've had three in the last 37 years!!
Try it, what have you got to lose?
Good luck fella.

but they can make me sick also.

Same with me but I find that if I can stick my fingers down my throat and vomit I then feel perfectly fine again within half an hour or so.

I used to get them loads back in my footballing days, burred vision followed by an almighty head splitting headaches. Took me a while to realise it was down to dehydration.

I found that keeping topped up with an electrolyte drink (I used High5 Zero Dissolvable tablets) whilst playing worked a treat. Not had another one since.

I still use them while playing golf just to be on the safe side. Well worth a try.

I suffered a lot with these in the past; not as regular nowadays but I can read the signs more.

As others have said, the key is to spotting it and getting in a dark room with some tabs before it really kicks in. Also, keep a log of food / drink as there may be something triggering it. My Mam gets then when having decaf coffee for example.

Hope the tabs work mate and it's not having too much of an effect on your work (or your golf!)

Cheers fella

It's probably caused by those roulette machines, stay off them and you'll be fine and richer:whistle:

I used to get them. Gave up caffeine for a few years and never had one again.

I was drinking about 8-9 mugs of fresh coffee a day back then. In the last year I've started drinking coffee again but I only allow myself one a day and I drink decaffeinated tea and water at other times.

Relatively new to me, including the zig-zag lines. They've put me on my back a few times recently. I blame my new MD!

Food triggers worked for me.........I now avoid all citrus fruit, dark [real]chocolate, strong cheese and strong coffee.
It was generally combinations of that four.
Sudden bright light did not help either

I get them if I don't eat at the right times. Used to get them after playing golf, and realised it was when I had mid morning tee times, and didn't have my lunch until too late. Once one is on the way there is no stopping it.:( I do find getting under a hot shower helps short term. My migraines are always in one eye, but from having them weekly, they are more like annually.

Find out what is causing them is the best way forward, rather than trying to stop one once it has started.

Important to find the triggers first. My wife gets migraines and has been prescribed sumatriptan and it works well at the first sign. It isn't a fail safe and she still gets them but it has reduced the amount that develop into a full blown attack.

Reviving an old thread... made me notice I never said thanks for the advice received.

Many thanks!

I looked at both the diet (which was and still is poor, life of a builder eating on the go). The fizzy orange lucozade seemed to be a trigger so that went. Also tried the migraleve pink and yellow tabs which work intermittently.

I now have another issue, which I’m guessing is related? Obviously I don’t wanna bother the docs if not necessary.

When I put pressure in my left temple (lying on a pillow, or hand as a support) I get, the best way I can describe, is not quite a thud but more than a pulse. Gets quite twitchy at times. Happens off and on

Any ideas?

Again many thanks ?

This is me. I don't get the headaches often, but my vision can be shot to pieces. Not foundcwhat triggers it yet, but bright lights and sudden movements don't help it.

Sounds like you’re just hearing your pulse from your neck.

I get the kaleidoscope vision it’s really horrible and does make me cold but sweaty.
It makes me feel sick but I don’t vomit.
I don’t get the headaches at all.
I always put it down to the bright lights in work.
Bright sunlight was always a problem for me so I wear sunglasses a lot.
I havnt had any since retiring 7 years now.
Do you suffer anxiety this can raise your blood pressure and you are hearing your own pulse.
