Anybody who has migraine will know how awful it is! :( About two months ago I got migraine out on the course, at the 12th hole. As some people would know migraine usually makes you blind in the side of your eye or maybe dizzy. I just got blind in the side of my eye. I didnt know any cures for it so I'm wondering if anybody here knows any...even to relieve it.

By the way, I chipped in on the 14th while I had it! :D
 
Dont know if it will have any effect on you but I know someone who would stop, and do some deep breathing to increase oxygen intake and also drink about a pint of water, it used to reduce it but not get rid, I think its just one of those things that just cant be given a magical cure with any quick results.

Hope you dont have them too often.
 
I've had migraines for 40 years, though rarely the headaches, more usually the 'aura' - kaleidoscope patterns, vision, numbness, 'dislocation/disassociation' (you can't think or articulate clearly). Only had one episode on the course, had to abandon as I couldn't see the ball on the tee!

so many triggers. for me, flickering light, stress, lack of sleep, not eating breakfast, soft cheese, etc. (I'm not convinced that everything lumped in as 'migraine' actually is; how do you link pmt with chocolate, for one)

I always carry a pack of Migraleave pink (come in two colours, pink are the initial dose, yellow the boosters). Trouble is they take time to kick in and leave me like a wet rag when they do. There are some other options out there (I think Nurofen do one) but none are instant.

Make sure you carry food and drink, (I'm on the look-out for some instant energy food so if anyone knows . . .?), sunglasses, wear a hat (heat can trigger).

Try to identify your triggers and do what you can to avoid them.

I used to carry Migraleve, worked quite well. These days I know a good hour or two what's coming on, and a couple of paracetamol sorts me out.....I consider myself lucky.....
 
HID suffers from them and has Imigran to take when the initial symptoms first manifest. They are suppose to try and fight it off quicker.

"I have suffered since I did my exams, so about 20 years now. Although I have found some triggers, I am still stuck with others. I find chocolate, cheese, coffee, red wine, stress, low sugar (skipping brakfast or lunch), or not drinking properly can cause me a problem. So many things to remember. I also find if it is a very bright day and I have a regular head ache it can trigger a migraine, or if there is a storm coming.

The only thing I can suggest is that you really should get it diagnosed by your GP and talk about medication. I take Propranalol on a daily basis to help, then as hubby says, I have imigran too. They are great, and you can take them up to the 11th hour.

When I have a migraine I get nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, cant stand light or noise, and sometimes loose my balance. When I have a migraine absolutely NOTHING works. Your stomach shuts down and wont process any pain killers, no matter how strong. The only thing that helps is an ice pack on my head, no really it does help!!!! And lying in a dark room. I am impressed you managed to carry on playing golf though! Not sure if any of this helps.

Yes, they are unstoppable once they arrive......that's the annoying thing......
 
Migraines can start in the stomach. Sometimes kaolin & morph or even gaviscon can make a difference.

I suffered terribly when my digestive problems were un-treated.

In chronic migraine sufferers a reduced dose of the anti-depressant amitriptyline can be used.

Top advice. I suffer from them from time to time too. Knowing the triggers helps identify the symptoms earlier and pre-empt with Migralive. For me it's flickering fluorescent tubes (Bloody great when you work in an office plastered with them) and strong sunlight. First thing to go for me is the peripheral vision, then the sickness comes, finally the splitting headache. Couple of pink migralive soons as the eyes tingle and I find most of them don't fully develop. Think the pink have anti-sickness drugs in them - only different between the pink and yellow. Learn what triggers them, recognise it early and treat!
 
I suffer from them too so know what you are enduring.

Onset - Blurred vision for about 30-45mins and dizzyness.
Triggers - Bright light, red wine, lack of sleep, missing breakfast, stress, dehydration.
Cure - Dark room and sleep. NOTHING else.

I have about 2or3 a year and just want to curl up and die. I know it sounds dramatic but they are just horrible.

I have suffered with them on and off for 15 years. The cause for me is usually exercise on an empty stomach, but I can get them randomly. I usually get no warning before the aura's start and luckily I haven't had one out on the course (touching a lot of wood!). But when I do get one I usually just take some Ibuprofen, go to bed and ride it out. I am quite lucky in that the headache usually only lasts a couple of hours - I know some people who are out for days afterwards :(

Not sure there is a lot you can do other than trying to pin point what starts them and addressing that.
