Michael Clarke - sledging disgraceful comment

Yep. I've no problem with such gamesmanship in the Professional game. Umpires and the Match Referree (abd others) have the power to penalise players when it's deemed to excessive.

I have more of an issue with Warner giving trott grief off the field. I think he said he was weak and scared or something along those lines... Give it on the pitch at the end shake hands walk off and have a drink!

Not entirely against this sort of thing but believe it's up to Team Management to set guidelines about what's acceptable and what's not. Press blow all these sorts of things out of all proportion, but I believe that incident was close enough to the boundary to deserve a word - though nothing more.

A bit of respect for the opponent(s) is what's expected imo! Boxing is the only 'sport' where negative comments should be acceptable imo.

In my experience most Test players are unmoved by sledging and it really is a waste of breath by the fielders designed to relieve them of tension. Top players are just not going to take it seriously. If you are getting beaten it is because the other side are better, not because you have been intimidated by puerile drivel or trash talk.

Would u say the same if you sat through another Atherton v Donald battle... It's not just all about the words

Isn't that my point though?

That was all about a batsman surviving against fearsome fast bowling. It had nothing to do with sledging.

Sorry I didnt word that right

I seem to remember Donald and the team having a word with Atherton that added to the spice but like I say its not just about the words!

True but the words didn't work did they. Atherton survived (somehow!).

How dare you Sir! He was a captain of England don't you know.

Whatever next, you will be suggesting he sometimes had dirt in his pocket.

IF I remember correctly it was a hot day and he used it to dry his hands in a similar way to a spinner using the dust of the crease ....he just errrrrr ......errrrrr had a bad back and couldnt bend

Love it,adds to the spice of the series.
Sledging is now part and parcel of the game.
Yes he might have got a tiny bit out of line,as he suggested he was going to do harm, however
easier said than done.

Take a look at one of the best pieces of cricket ever.......stemming from cheating (but not walking is another story)

My favourite sledge,i believe it was Glenn Mcgrath to Robin Smith.
Along the lines of-

Smithy why is it every time I see you,you get fatter and fatter.
Smithy replys-because every time I ---- you wife she gives me a biscuit.
Quality

I don't follow cricket as it is such a stupid boring game so have I got this right.

It is OK for the gentlemen of England to cheat but not OK for the oiks of Australia to indulge in banter.

It was Eddo Brandes from Zimbabwe who said that to Glenn McGrath.....another Ozzie, who was good at giving it, but not taking it. Sledging is part and parcel of the game. However, I do think that the captain of a side who have played superbly and are about to win a test match, could have acted with a little more class. Yeah, sure, sledge the guy, but to say something so downright aggressive was out of line.
