Merseyside area, decent( courses sought

I'm looking for a few decent courses to play over the next month or so.

The problem I'm having up to now is that many of the courses local to St Helens that cost less than £40 for 18holes have poor drainage. Several of the courses local have more than 4 holes closed, and even though I have waterproofs and decent footwear, I dont see the fun in playing in waders or haviing to constantly fish a ball out of standing water.

I have a few 2fore1 vouchers, but do not want to really pay more than £40 when using the vouchers.

Can anyone local or who has played courses local to St Helens that fall into my price range that offer 2fore1 please post details.

I also think it would be a good idea for ratings on the courses to include things such as condition of darinage, and playability when plenty of rain has been happening. As I think the recent weather we have been having has made a lot of courses less than favourable.

This is one of my 1st posts, and any help in finding somewhere I can develop my beginners skills on the course would be greatly appreciated.

Which courses have you played recently?

I'm a member at Beacon Park played last weekend and it was wet to say the least.We are playing off the first cut, but no temp greens and very few mats in place.

How it will hold up I don't know as this is my first year of playing over winter really. We have buggy paths so you can avoid some of the more muddy bits.

It's mainly the middle of the course that gets it worst due to it being at the bottom of the mountain we seem to be on.

A couple miles off the Rainford bypass is decent enough course,i played there in November and was very firm considering the rain we have had,you have to cross 3 holes driving into the club which can get a bit wild but other than that is nice enough

Bit further away on the other side of Ormskirk and i bit more expensive but take 2 4 1 vouchers if my memory serves me right,last time i played Nov 07 it was bone dry with a good clubhouse just watch out for the prices of the drinks

How far from St Helens you willing to travel, I could name loads of courses on the the Wirral/Chester and surrounding areas that would probably be decent and may take your vouchers!

Pleasington in Blackburn is a great track , and takes 2 fore 1's, as does Birchwood in Warrington.

Hi Steve, i am a member at Grange Park in St Helens which is a very nice course and has reasonable prices under £40 especially mid week, to be honest the drainage there hasnt been great but when the snow clears we are undergoing quite a few big changes with drainage in mind so if you get the chance give it a try it wont let you down. Other than that head to Southport for the links courses they seem to stay dry when others submerge, Hesketh is very nice
