Membership

None of the old stuff blazer brigade at my place. Our captain is usually in amongst the most raucous noise in the bar on a Saturday afternoon. A lot of our seniors still want the club run as a traditional club and will stick to not letting groups through (more down to a lack of education really but realistically they won't change now) and for a more traditional dress code. Fortunately there are less and less each year and so the problem is going away. We are moving forward and do seem to be getting new members at the moment.

I read about the points scheme in GM and think its a good idea but how does it work from an admin point of view. I can see that being a headache to administer especially if the secretaries are busy already as they are at my place.

I see De Vere have introduced a points scheme as well, £295 for 100 points which you can use on any of their courses, average is 8 points a round. Membership at my club is dying, they've waived the joining fee which at one time was £1500 and are still struggling to attract new members.

If club memberships are declining there is little evidence of it in the attitudes of clubs round this way; one has re-instated waiting lists and full joining fees.
I don't think any have scrapped joining fees though one or two have deferred payment schemes - still can't afford to join them. More than a few have really have not learnt that it's the customer that counts, not their ego. Some is simply fixed, answer the b***** phones.
