Hello forumers,as my move to fife has been put back a year I am looking for a decent, beginner friendly golf club to join.Mearns castle seems ideal, includes lessons, range credit, great practice facilities, and nearby(i live in mount florida).Only bad point is that its only 9 holes.Have any of you good folk been there? What did you think? Cheers!

This is the range I go to all time and played it a good few times over the years.

Yeah it’s only a 9 hole which isn't all that bad apart from the greens which are like concrete plus full of far too much sand. The course used to be very good condition but over the last year it’s got worse and the biggest prob the greens as I said.

The range is good if you get a bay that the machine works on as some times they don’t work right and becomes more hassle than its worth trying to get balls to come out the tee.

If I remember right its only about £290 or something for the membership but not 100% sure tho

SHARKATTACK...does THGC and LGC still not have the residency
condition in place i.e. you must stay in E.K.?(did when I was there!!)
Must admit though, you would not find 2 better munis, although getting on can be a pain, what with having to queu(?)and book 7days in advance!
Is it still the same system?
To digress slightly, thought that you were going to join Nerston!?

1 There is no restriction on having to stay in EK to join.
2 You still have to book in advance, but you can phone for a time.
3 You can get a season ticket for a course, but if you want a Rover ticket letting you play all 6 courses I think you have to be a South Lanarkshire resident. (Check out South Lanarkshire Leisure website)
4 I looked at Nerston, wasn't to keen on the fact all of the long holes play into the prevailing wind. I also decided THGC at almost half the price would allow me to play more Open Competitions. I feel when I have paid that amount for my green fee's I had better play that course, as My Little Millstone would be wanting me to justify spending £800 and then paying to play somewhere else. Kind of happy I decided not to join, I still have my clubs and I still have a clubhouse to sit in after my game ;)

I joined half way through the season and played between both courses until I left Kirkhill in September. I can't agree with you more about the club, great members and a great layout.

I will definately take you up on the game. I never played much in the Glasgow side of EK before my lay off from golf mainly Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and parts of Fife.
