Matt Kuchar

No harm in asking the question and most pros do this routinely, even if getting a drop will require a marginal interpretation. i.e. sprinklers, cart paths etc.

But having asked the question, he needs to move on.

Not sure why the official hangs about so long, he should just say 'your ball is in play, please continue' and walk away.

Depends on the authority of the RO - rare for it to be absolute on any tour so you wait until the TD, or even committee, have ruled in some cases.

The rule for an embedded ball on closely mown area hasn't changed at all.
So you could say to anybody are you 100% sure that your ball is in it's own mark and if they have the smallest bit of doubt then you can refuse them a drop. 95% of the time your unable to see your ball clearly enough to see if it just pitches and stops dead. It should either be changed to any embedded ball can be dropped or you have to play it, shouldn't matter how it became embedded. It's another stupid rule which hasn't been thought through properly

Yet John Paramor seemed happy enough.

Plus despite what Bunkered said it was a Waste Area not a bunker.

Agree, i happened to be watching live when the incident happened, and whilst Rob Lee appeared to be questioning why he was allowed to remove the stones from around his ball, the process was indeed overviewed by both a standard rules official and John Paramor.

What’s wrong with it ? Referee was there and agreed with Kuchar so what’s the issue

Hes using his fingers like a JCB digger would move earth.

If you lift small stones you pinch with one finger and thumb being very careful not to disturb the lie. Hes practically clearing a nice path into the ball right under the refs nose.

The top referee in golf was right there with him when he did it and saw nothing wrong it. Seems the headline doesn’t match the actions.
