Matchplay

Be ready to stare in disbelief as your opponent produces a shot worthy of winning any major, past, present or future no matter what handicap they play off. I hate match play.

One thing I have heard is "Always expect your opponent to make his/her putt". I am guessing this means even if he/she is 20ft away don't automatically think you have won, you have to be ready to clinch it yourself.

i love matchplay to me this is what golf is all about,my advice would be to THINK about your shots and TAKE TIME in your decisions in course management. No doubt your oppo will stab you through the heart with a 20ft double breaker for a half when you thought it was your hole BUT you will do the same to them.

Before you start mark on your card the holes you get shots on,this will give you a mental reminder and a quick glance will dictate the shot you will play, unless its the last hole and you need to win it to carry on DONT go for the BUBBA shot to the green, play within yourself and ENJOY,GOOD LUCK.

I don't think I've ever had a card with me while playing a match - certainly not at my home club - I know where I'm getting/or giving shots and if I'm not sure it has the stroke index on the tee marker - I've played against a couple of newish golfers who marked down the scores for each hole though - bizarre to me

it there as a mental note and a few seconds to compose your self,i know most people would know the holes they give or receive shots but doing this takes the doubt away for someone not used to matchplay.Of all the forms of golf matchplay i find is the most enjoyable but also the most frustrating.

if you dont mark a card ,how do you know who has won,do you just remember the score, and what proof have you got if your opo disagrees----- now thats bizarre.
