Massive watch dilema

Whole different ball game as I am learning. I have 3 skaagen watches and a few others. My Omega is a family heirloom and buying a quality watch is creating just that. My grandad will never see the grin that his watch has given me but investing in something you will never see is a wonderful part of life that I never appreciated. That said I am emotional at the moment, tears over my dads high end coffee machine sum that up

Odd how you should say that, when my grandma on me dads side died I picked her bread board as a keepsake. It is the wobbliest piece of timber you can imagine, but it is me grandmas wobbly bread board.

Odd feeling. My dad was so proud of his coffee machine. As a family we did not do posh things but coffee, port and cheese were always worth the money. This weekend I fired up up my first espresso on his pride and joy machine and blubbed like a small child

I love watches. I just do.

I have a longines, a breitling, a tag, a cartier, several seikos, and two vintage omegas.

Next up would be an iwc pilots watch. Possibly.

There's a shop in Burlington Arcade on the right hand side as you walk towards Piccadilly from New Bond St. that has a window full of vintage Rolexes, that by the sound of it would turn a lot of you dolally with wanton desire. :mmm:

Oddly I don't give a monkey's chuff about jewellery but in recent years have found myself drawn to watches, and if I suddenly became wealthy I'd certainly fill my boots in this particular establishment.

Until then it's gonna have to be my 60s Timex red LED display à la James Bond.

Just one other thing to consider when you buy an expensive watch, is the ongoing service costs. They can be steep on top end models, even more so if vintage. A friend has a 1970's Omega and the service will cost almost £1k. I had a low end TAG which was causing me problems and ended up buying a replacement rather than spending £400 on servicing.

I've also got a thing about watches, but would never spend the fortunes that some do. I hanker after a TAG though.
Got about 3 or 4 Skagens, a couple of really nice Seiko's, and a Pulsar that I love.

I went big on an IWC a few months ago - I love it but am still not sure that I can justify the cost of it. One thing worth bearing in mind is that you can make quite a big saving if buying tax-free when travelling (which is what I did) - about 15% or whatever the relevant rate of duty is, which adds up to a fairly big number when buying an expensive watch.

I know I have mentioned Christopher Ward here before but I wanted an Aviator Watch and do like IWC but I had the one in this link. Loving it and a great price:

I had 3 in front of me when I bought a nice timepiece, the omega planet ocean with orange bezel, the IWC chrono pilots watch and a Rolex sub. The omegas felt really big when I had it one but its was a nice watch, I may still have one someday. The IWC was cracking when I had it on, very dressy watch and it very nearly won. I ended up with the Rolex though because I loved the look of it when I had it on and it can go well with casual wear or sports wear. If I ever buy another watch it will be either that IWC or a Bremont pilots watch.
On another note, omega and IWC can be haggled over, from an authorised dealer there's no haggling with Rolex.
I initially struggled with spending that amount on a timepiece but you're only here once mate, I'd say just go and get what you really want.

The omega planet ocen wth orange bezel. Thats my ideal watch👍😜

It's quite a thick watch when you have it on, a wee bit loud and flashy but it's really nice. If you aren't fussed about buying brand new have a look on chrono24. Might get a good buy second hand on there.

Plus a few others I tried

Go and try some on then walk away for a few days/weeks, let it play over in your head because it's a fair amount of cash for a timepiece, then go and get the one you can't get out of your head. The one you're thinking about when you should be concentrating on the 3ft putt on the 18th😂

Really not that bothered about watches, just use my phone if I need to know the time (£23 a month but it does lots of other things too ;) )

Having said that, I have been tempted by the lovely clean lines of a white faced Mondaine :)

Ive got a few Rolex....datejust which wifey bought me 30 years ago,a new GMT and Day date. Bought my son a Rolex Sub Bluesy for his graduation. He's not got it yet as he doesn't graduate till July....thinking about a blue/black or pepsi GMT...or maybe just the iconic black Sub.

I'm a bit of a watch fan too, although I don't own as many as some on here. Oddly enough, whilst i love watches, I don't really wear them that often these days. My fav's are a Seiko kinetic that I bought in Japan back in 1996, and a solar powered, nuclear signalled Casio Edifice that I mostly wear these days if I wear...... Love some of the TAG watches, and the Seiko Sportura but my fav at the moment is the UNO24

Being a little sentimental I have a 1974 Seiko Speedtimer 5 - the year i was born. I like the fact we have both been going the same time....

However, if I had the spare cash I might be tempted by a Bremont Martin Baker.
