Has anyone been to Mar Menor on a golf holiday?

Our usual group have been to Amendoeira for the past two years and loved it. We are looking for somewhere else for a bit of a change this year and this came up as a potential. We wanted something with unlimited golf (so we can get in two rounds a day without breaking the bank). The courses at Amendoeira are great and we'd ideally want something of similar quality and in terms of the facilities on offer too. It looks ok, but has only one course on site with the use of other courses in the area. Transfers are thrown in but I don't really know how far they are and how feasible it is to get two rounds a day in at different courses. To be honest just looking for some info and people's opinions on the courses and the resort itself.

Thanks in advance.

A Group of 8 of us went to Mar Menor staying in the Residences (the apartments) last summer, we played at Mar Menor, El Valle and Saurines during our stay.

We all enjoyed the golf courses and the facilities at Mar Menor, the only draw back was the breakfast wasn't the best well not as good as we have had on previous golf breaks.

How far away were the other courses from the resort? Did you have all the transfers laid on for you? where there any issues with this?

The other courses were with in 30 minutes if I remember correctly.

The only issues we had was that Golfbreaks hadn't emailed the transfer details for the courses away from Mar Menor so we had no clue when we were being picked up so we tried to change that round and the people in the Pro Shop at were extremely helpful and changed the round location to Mar Menor. I did manage to get in touch with someone from Golfbreaks who then emailed me the details so we had no issues with the other transfers.

On any future golf holidays I will ensure I check these details before going!!!!

Have played in the Mar Menor area a few times. Imho the best course by far is Las Colinas which is about 30 minutes away.I think it's rated as being in Spain's top 50.I've always found the condition very good and the service is outstanding.
Only downside for me who prefers to walk is the distance between some greens and tees - a buggy is a must.
It's run by a company called Troon Golf which manages top courses around the world. The have a 45 hole set up near Tarragona in Spain - Lumine .Have had week there - the two 18s are very different and the 9 is a little cracker so plenty of variety on the same site.

We were looking at Mar Menor as it allows us to book with unlimited golf. We'd like to play 6 games over 4 days and booking the rounds separately looked like it was going to get a lot more expensive. Mar Menor holiday appears to offer us the choice of playing on 5 or so courses, but given how brilliant everything about Amendoeira was I was hoping to get some insight into the quality of the facilities and the courses. :-)

The hotel is beautiful and I really enjoyed the course. The IRM courses in that area are very good, and then Las Colinas and Las Ramblas are well worth playing. That area of Spain isn't brilliant though, nowhere near as lively as Marbella-end, was all a bit run-down when we went and the quality of restaurants wasn't brilliant. If you're looking for somewhere in Spain then La Cala resort would be perfect. 3 courses on-site, they do a weekly pass which is unlimited rounds and buggies on all 3 courses for the full week and there's a lot more going on in the area than around Mar Menor.

I play over that way fairly regularly, my parents own an apartment on Saurines Golf Course (one of the sister courses to Mar Menor). Saurines and La Torre, 2 IRM courses, are less than 20 mins away. The other courses in the IRM family, El Valle, Hacienda and Alhama are a little further out.

I'd say Mar Menor & El Valle are the top 2. Well, I'd say Saurines is too, from purely a golf point of view. But Saurines is a bit dead atmosphere wise in the clubhouse. La Torre which is close to Mar Menor is the busiest, and from what I understand they have their hotel opening soon, so that could be worth a look into.

If you're into to online golf bloggers, then google Mark Crossfield Mar Menor - he's played there. He also played a handful of other courses around the area, including Saurines - it looks as good on film as it does when you are there.

Buggies a must for Mar Menor, as it's been said, long walks between holes.

Outside of the 6 IRM courses, Las Colinas is the creme-de-la-creme. It's won Spain's best golf course 2 years in a row. Las Ramblas is a nice course, but expect a good 5+ hour round as they like to pack in the punters.

As for night life etc outside of golf, Los Alcaseraz (sp?) is the local town / strip / seafront we go to. It's got some nice restaurants, not too far away, but dead outside of peak holiday season. When are you thinking of going?
