Get a 4 wood and sell the 3 and 5![]()
I agree
Or
Drop the 54 wedge. That would leave you with 43, 50 and 58

I play the following.. Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 5 hybrid, 5 - PW, 50 , 54 , 58 degree.. and obviously a putter.
Your opening post. Yup I know splitting hairs
sorry just read the rest of the post, early morning laziness!
image upload no size limitHad a look at my lofts , can see why people say get rid of one of the 3 Hybrid or 5 Wood very similar loft wise (0.5 degree)
Loft comparison is probably not a great deal of use as you have different clubs (fairway/hybrid/iron all behave different for the same loft) and you have many different makes and models too.
Yardages and consistency of strike will make a difference to your choices. Figure out what yardages you hit with each (be honest) and then consider if you can rely on hitting that yardage consistently too. No point in having a 180 yard club if you only hit that club that distance every 5th shot, if the other 4 are going 165 and 195 then you might as well drop the club.
If you have 210 on your driver and 170 is your hybrid then you've got lots of clubs between your irons and you driver .... You must worry about club to hit from certain distances as you'll have so many choices.
Drop the club you can't get consistent with and ensure you have clubs that cover the distances.
They may be similar lofts but the 5 wood is 2 inches longer than the 3 hybrid
Paul you are over analysing this. As you said you play off high 20s handicap, it will make next to no difference to your score if you drop the 3wood, 5 wood, hybrid or wedge.
You will see much better improvement by focusing on improving your technique and then speed as 170 with a 5 wood isn't very far, especially if your 3 hybrid goes further. It also sounds like you are not hitting your driver far enough if you are hitting a good 3 hybrid to near driver length.
Focus on short game as that will always bail you out.
Strike. Finding the middle more often will improve distance and accuracy.
Speed. Only really when you are hitting it better should you try to up the speed but that will come with improved technique.
Work over winter and some lessons with a pro will get you where you want to be much quicker.
Best of luck

Can I offer some constructive advice? You play off 28, you have already mentioned that your 5 wood or hybrid ( can't remember which) goes anything between 170 and 200 yards so this suggests to me that your ball striking is pretty inconsistent. I would suggest that you spend your money on lessons rather than trying to buy clubs to fill every yardage gap when it seems you are not capable yet of hitting the required yardages consistently.
Sorry if this seems a bit harsh but I'm trying to be realistic and offer you some practical advice.
ive just run out of lessons and my pro has moved abroad to work. He took my swing from a 28 handicapper getting 25 points a round to a 26/25 handicapper getting 30 plus points a round in the space of a year. I'm gonna use the off season to practice what he showed me (got it all written down in a lesson book) rather than switching pros again. I've always been told can take up to a year for what you learn in lessons to fully filter into your game on the course so I'll see where I am next season before going for further lessons
went down the range this morning. Practiced mainly chipping and irons with a few woods thrown in just to keep those strikes in the brain. The irons had a slight fade. The driver a small fade however the long woods had a baby draw which was nice to see the flight considering I hit about 3 of each long wood.
some nice spin off the wedges aswell.
Stick with it although if it as me, I'd look at maybe one lesson in the new year and maybe one at the start of the season. Work hard over the winter, enjoy the journey and I hope it works out well
If my pro hadn't left I would have a lesson in march. My old pro wants me back but I had him for what 3 years and I learnt very little. 1 year with new pro and he taught me so much.
dont want to change again because takes me about 3 lessons or so to get comfortable with the pro. Don't know if can face changing again so soon lol
Shop around. Ask those you play with. I find word of mouth very useful. If you feel you didn't move on with the old pro, don't go back but see who is out there
In my society I'm 28, on mygolfonline I'm 26/25 just can't get cut on society days your right I play them as par 5s I play all holes as a par 5 then I'd hit 90 and be chuffed. 93 is my best so far.
Because my distance lacks I am to be a great wedge player as that's where I make up my scores
