Walking through a quiet wood this afternoon with the dog. I spotted a Tawny Owl sitting on a branch at eye level about 20 yards in front of me. The dog went into gundog mode and sat quietly at heel as the owl eyed us up. After a few minutes he took off and slowly glided past me just out my reach.

Wow - amazing. We have one in a field near us. Not sure what type of owl it is mind but it is stunning although Max is oblivious seeming to have totally missed out on the retriever/gun-dog element of being a Lab!

Just home from walking him and nothing but wind and rain for my enjoyment!

Amazing :)

A mate and I were walking to the pub on Christmas morning a few years ago when a deer ran out into the path infront of us, stopped and had a look, then scarpered back into the woods.

a fox nipped out and took my scorecard in a medal........think he'd been watching me and felt I'd had enough ;)

I love owls! Not that clever though, apparently. Their skulls are full of their eyes which leaves no room for much of a brain.

Hawks are very clever, apparently.

Was that the Cooden fox ?

We get a lot of deer around where we live. They are totally mad, and wait until you are about to drive past and leap out in front of you.

Wow, brillinat, lucky you, despite being quiet a keen bird watcher I have only ever seen one owl.
I see Roe deer on our course now and again, its always a treat.

An interesting Owl fact is that there are 6 different types of owls in the UK.....

The Barn Owl

Tawny Owl

Short Eared Owl

Long Eared Owl

The Little Owl

And........??

The Teet.

I'll get my coat.:D

I have also seen a Capercallie, Snow Buntings and Sea and Golden Eagles
I was also sitting in the car on Lewis, less than 10 yards away from a Corn Crake, heard it but could not see it in the reeds. Saw a green heron a couple of years ago at Helligan. Snipe drumming on Islay was quite something.
Not really a twitcher but an interested bystander.
