Just had the blurb through today asking if I'd take part again as I've done so before. Having done it round Royal Ascot twice I was thinking what I could do that would be different and thought about four rounds at four courses. Plenty around in the vicinity and thought if I could get their agreement we could start at Bird Hills at first light, dash round to Blue Mountain (ten minute drive) for round 2, over to the Downshire for round 3 and finish at Royal Ascot.

Logistically it seems to work out pretty well. They are all pay and play except Ascot (which is home) so hopefully they might be more amenable to letting us on without the need to pre-book a time as it might be tricky to stick to exact timings. It looks promising although the Downshire mid/late afternoon may be the slowest and could throw a spanner in the works for getting the last round done in time. Anyone else thinking about the Macmillan Challenge and anyone fancy making a 4 if I can work the details out. Certainly a bit different and definitely better than 4 rounds on the same course. Alternatively if anyone is planning to play in this and needs someone to make up the numbers I'm game

It is something I want to do as HID's mother was diagonsed with Pancreatic Cancer last year and still fighting it and MacMillian have been excellent so I want to try give them something back. I would like to do 4 different courses.
How did you find it? And how did you go about fundraising?

Lost my dad ten years ago and my mum been battling stomach cancer for about a year. Macmillan have been brilliant. This should tell you all you need to know

I'd definately be up for it Homer (have thought about doing the same challenge before. I seriously think it would be a struggle doing 4 different courses though and If you were to include the Downshire then you would need to make sure that was the first club visited and you had the first tee off time (otherwise you could be looking at a 5 hour plus round there). Would deffo be up for doing the challenge, but don't think four different courses is possible

I can't even manage 4 rounds in a month so I'm no help to you.

But if you have a Justgiving page I'll definitely donate - I got the all clear last week and know only too well how much cancer patients need all the support they can get.

I'd be up for it again Homer. When we did it last time we had about 1 1/2 light left plus we stopped for an hour so there is definately time to play with assuming we can start at first light like we did last time :D

I'm trying to arrange one at our course but for the Royal Marines Charitable Foundation due to family ties.

Thinking of trying to get 5 rounds in starting at first light, reckon it should be do-able, as Hawkeye says 4 on the same track gives you time to have a break and also finish comfortably for light.

I was thinking of trying to do 100 holes but think that may be too much.......

Bash, it might be better if we can get Downshire to let us on first. When I did it a few years back with Hywel Lloyd (HTL) it was pretty good although we did have a run in with the green staff who didn't know why we were there and thought we'd snuck on. If we do Downshire, run over to Blue Mountain for about 9.00 we can be at Bird Hills for about 2.00 and should be able to tee off at Ascot at 6.30 ish.

Failing that we'll just yomp around Ascot all day and cheese the seniors, claw and lady members off. If you can get me nephew to join us then with Hawkeye as well it'll be a good 4 ball and guaranteed some laughs.

I am seriously considering giving this a go this year. I would like to do 4 courses. I have 4 courses within 10 minutes of each other. Abbotsley & Cromwell (side by side), St. Neots and Wyboston Lakes. I would do the 2 at Abbotsley followed by St. Neots and finish at Wybo (nice and flat for tired legs). Just need to find 3 people up for it I guess.

I know its sounds rubbish, but am expecting baby around longest day ish, so a full days pass is not going to happen this year. already getting my team sorted for next year!! we are luck to have lots of courses nearby and will play 4 different courses on the same day. Donnington Valley, Donnington Grove, Newbury and Crookham and finally either Newbury racecourse or Sandford springs or West Berks. Luckily too, we are already teeing up (no pun) repsective marketing departments through mine and my mates work, so will be in effect "working"! LOL

Great charity though guys, the macmillan nurses looked after my mates mum last year and they really do a fantastic job in very tough times/circumstances.

I did this with 2 friends back when I was a junior and am considering doing it again this year. That time we had 4 rounds of torrential rain that caused the ceiling in the club kitchen to come down meaning we had four rounds without any food! Biggest problem with 4 rounds is that if you have "one of those days" where you can't get a swing together, it can be a long drag for you and the playing partners that have to put up with you!

As Bash said, count me in Martin, sounds like a brilliant cause.

Right we've got the dream team sorted and I'll bang some e-mails out to the courses at the weekend. I guess with Ascot we'll need to check if they plan to have a poxy social event on that day When we played last time, we got to the 8th in the last round and scores of players flooded the front nine for a nine hole shotgun social event. The group starting on the 9th weren't going to let us play at all but certain members of our quartet had a frank and honest exchange of opinions and we got off ok.

I got my team sorted so just gonna register. Got 3 guys I work with that are all keen golfers and a good laugh. 2 of us are Irish and 2 English so the rivalry has started already..!!!

Would you be doing this with Vince by any chance?

Something I am also interested in doing, Homer is not THAT far from me, I go to Ascot 2-3 times a year as we work closely with a contract lab company in North Ascot.

BUT not being a member of a club means I will not be playing more than 2 rounds a month so 4 in a day will be a massive shock to the system. I think I could be "in practice" as I plan to go to the range/short game pratice area 2-3 times a week.

Anyway, something to think about as I could be an alternate.

One reason why I might NOT be able is I might have lost my job (again) and moved to Cambridge by then.
