After yet more major no shows from our "big" two do you think they have the bottle and desire to actually go on and win a biggy????

Webb Simpson had the game to race through the pack on days 3 and 4, not only that, his game stood up to the pressure. Our "big" two were again found wanting.

I'm not convinced any of them will ever be major winners! Discuss!

Both seem to be unstoppable in Europe but struggle across the pond (I know Luke won the money list over there but was that as a result of being the best or of playing in more events and finishing higher than others more consistently but without winning - I haven't looked over the full stats so stand to be corrected).
Personally I think Luke has more of a chance than Lee as something always just seems to evade him when needed on the big stage.

EDIT: Looked over his 2011 stats. 2 wins. 16 out of 19 events in the top 25, of that 14 in the top 10 with 3 third place, 2 second place and 2 wins. So that kinda backs my theory that winning the money list doesn't mean you win the most events, finishing consistently high is enough. But not really a determiner of winning a "big one"

I think that at least one of them will get there - a lot of good players take a long time (Mickelson) to get the monkey off their back. Luke has only really been a major contender for 2-3 years so the fact that he hasn't got there yet isn't a big issue. I don't think that he is in the Garcia mould. Lee probably only has a few more of his best years to do it in.

Even as Luke Donald's biggest fan, I don't think he has the bottle, but hope he scrapes one.

I don't think Lee is a bottler at all. He's had some pretty bad luck in a number of majors he's been in contention. The tree on Sunday, Phil Mickelson playing the back 9 of his life at Augusta etc...Couple this with his suspect putting over the last couple of years and this is why he's not got over the line. Since he put the Nome in the bag two weeks ago, his putting has looked better and will hopefully only improve. Moving to the US and playing more US courses will hopefully help improve his putting also.

Lee will win (at least) one, Luke (sadly) won't, IMO. But I'd love him to prove me wrong.

So that 3 putt on the last green at Turnberry was not down to a collapsed backside?

The tree was unlucky???? It was a very very poor swing that put him in the tree, the tree didn't jump out on him.

He said it was the perfect line. He was a yard, maybe two from clearing the tree and having a really short iron into the green. He was a few shots back at that point and had to take a risk or two. It didn't pay off. You have to create your own luck sometimes and he didn't quite manage it.

The three putt at Turnburry wasn't due to a collapsed backside, it was due to him having the putting game of a 28 handicapper! :D

To win a Major you have to have a large slice of luck. Yes you need the skill and the patience etc etc but you need a bit of luck too.
I just don't think Lee or Luke have had that luck yet.
They've got plenty of time left - they can do it. On;y time will tell.

Bingo.

Neither of them are "bottlers", if they were they wouldn't win tournaments across the world and hold the World Number 1 position and the same goes for desire.

Only 4 players a year can win a major, and to do so requires the game to be at it's very best for 4 days and for the luck also to be on your side and even you, as club players, know how unlikely it is to happen just when you want it to. When did you ever go out determined to win a club competition and manage to pull it off? When you didn't was it because you "bottled it"?

So Tiger had luck on his side all those times he won majors?
I agree with you on the skill and patience Imurg but I can't believe that every major winner has been lucky.

Yes. Tiger is (was) LUCKY enough to have been gifted the natural talent to be a better golfer than the rest of the field on the 14 times he won! :D

Lee will win one now that he has seen the light and switched to a mallet,he hits fairways and greens for fun and the putter is going to work at one of these for him.
Luke,don't think so

you do need a bit of luck. did you not hear web say that the shot he put all over the flag for a tap in bird was a mishit. he was trying to go for the middle of the green and he nearly holed it by mistake. these things happen in golf.

i really hope both of them can do it soon. ive really really warmed to lee. he doesnt seem to be putting himself under the same pressure and is always very relaxed these days in interviews.

He's only had the putter in the bag two weeks, and it's already plain to see how much his putting has improved; things can only improve the way I see it.

Maybe Tiger & other winners just had less bad luck then some of the more famous none major champions!
