My 60 has 6 degrees of bounce but I'll use it out of the sand sometimes depending on the situation.

By the time you've opened the face there's plenty of bounce to play the shot unless you've got the ball off your back foot and your weight on the left.

Cheers for the info bud!

I've always used a standard bounce on each club. So with my 56 Vokey I have 10 degrees of bounce.

I would only contemplate using a lower bounce club if I was playing on a course with a very tight fairway where I needed to nip the ball off the surface, whereas on my parkland course I would tend to get under the ball and fat it!

Anyone successful in getting their ball out of a bunker with a 3 iron? Saw someone mention it earlier

I have to say that wedges and the wild array of bounce combined with the right loft available for them has become far too complicated and confusing and is totally not needed for most of us mere mortals. On most courses I would imagine it ranges massively on every shot to when you need more or less bounce on your wedge depending on the lie i.e deep rough, tight fairways, depth of sand in the bunker etc etc. All this choice is doing is adding additional unwanted technical thought into an already tough shot. One could think that you would need to take 14 different wedges in you bag to cover off every eventuality!!! I think its unnecessary.

Being bamboozled with what what bounce to get myself recently I opted on some Gorge Wedges from Ping that offer just 3 options -SS ( Standard sole) TS (thin sole) WS (wide sole) The standard sole will do for most scenarios and has proved to be more than adequate for most shots in and around the green, its just the muppet on the end of it that needs sorting! If you want a wedge specifically and just for bunkers or thin lies off the fairway then pick one of the two options. Job done. ;)

I've got one. It's called a SW
No idea what loft/bounce/grind/kickpoint it has
I just know with a little practice it works

That's because in the good old days you had to have imagination and be able to visualise the shot you wanted to make. You then practised it endlessly until you got it right and could play it better than your mates ;)

Nowdays you just pick up the appropriately lofted wedge and have a swish at it.

How did we manage with only a pitching wedge and sand wedge ? :D

Bob,
IIRC you've mentioned before having fewer wedges in the bag. can I ask which one's you think we should have?
I was thinking of filling some gaps at the top end of my bag - perhaps a 5 wood and a more lofted rescue, instead of the 19*, and thus dropping a wedge.
What sort of lofts would you recommend?

Why do you hate lob wedges so much Bob? Surely each to their own? I have been using nothing higher than a 56 for more than a year now with no major issues,I just fancy a bit more loft for a softer landing with less roll out as I am not very comfortable opening the face up too much.

I dont hate the LW
The problem I have is people buy them because they cant use their other wedges properly.

"I cant get out of this 3 feet deep bunker because my SW is only 56 deg. I need a 60/62"
Nonsense.
I have however mellowed and now accept that as lofts have become daft, and PWs are now 9/8 irons, golfers need a 50 deg wedge (the old PW) or a 52.

What sort of lofts would you recommend?

As most wedges are now around 46 deg (old 9 iron), I would suggest a GW of 52 and a SW of 58 or 50 GW and 56 SW
